Biddick's first three goals were gifted to them by the Mill's defence -a miskicked clearance from Mill's Alistair Dodd’s fell nicely for Lee Baxter to easily tap home, then Nick Thompson headed a left wing cross
into his own net and for the third goal Mill keeper Steven Ashman spilled the ball at the feet of Baxter for another easy tap in. Kris Young added a fourth before the half time interval. Mill's line up included three over 40's players in Chris Lindsay, Mitch Thompson and Paul Brennan and it was Brennan who notched a couple of goals in Mill's second half fight back. Also in the First Division a fine solid Lumley team performance ended in a 3-0 victory over visitors Gilesgate Moor Hotel. The deadlock was broken early in the 2nd half when Paul Howe pounced to score from close range. Howe doubled Lumley's lead when "the fox in the box" bundled the ball into the net from close range. Man of the Match James Laidler completed the scoring.

In the second Division Following on from their Midweek win over West Rainton Fc, Ushaw Moor Cricket Club were 5-1 Home winners over Washington Lambton village, hat-trick of brilliant individual goals by Scott nattrass, and 2 headers, 1 each from Gary Clark and Trevor ball Chester Plough Inn Entertained Sedgefield Black Lion down at the Riverside in Chester le Street This is the first time the clubs have met in any competion and the conditions were perfect. The Plough Inn kicked off the game and got the perfect start when we took the lead as early as the 2nd minute. The ball was played down the right channel for Daniel Hill to chase; he then beat two defenders before pulling the ball back to JOEL BADDAMS who made no mistake from 10 yards. Unfortunately as soon as we took the lead we seemed to take our foot off the gas and Sedgefield soon started to press us back. The away side managed to grab an equaliser in the 11th minute when Keith Lines gave the ball away in the middle of the park, the Sedgefield midfielder took advantage of the mistake, running on to the ball before beating three players then slotting the ball past Witherspoon. Credit to the Sedgefield player for a brilliant solo effort. The away side then extended their lead only 3 minutes later when a long ball over the top caught us out, the team appealed for offside but nothing given and the centre forward made no mistake placing the ball in the corner of the net. The away side continued to have a lot of the possession, passing the ball around the middle of the park but didn’t really provide any threat to the home goal. The home side did have a few chances themselves, Jamie Seymour had a fine effort which struck the cross bar and Daniel Hill also had a one on one which he would normally score but unfortunately put it agonisingly wide. The Plough Inn were then dealt a killer blow in the 40th minute when Sedgefield were awarded a free kick just inside our half. The ball was floated in the area which was knocked down for the striker to fire home from ten yards whilst we all stood watching. H/T 1-3 Joel Baddams had a great chance to get us back into the game when the two goal hero was put clear by Michael Dawson but unfortunately shot straight at the away goalkeeper. The game was then put beyond The Plough Inns reach when Sedgefield scored again. The Plough did manage to pull a goal back only five minutes later when Jamie Seymour broke down the right and crossed for JOEL BADDAMS to finish superbly from 15 yards. The remainder of the game The Plough continued to enjoy plenty of possession but didn’t really create many chances as our final ball into the area was pretty poor. Joel Baddams had a header which hit the bar late on but other than that the away side dealt with any threats. F/T 2-4

In the Third Division Sedgefield Net Park made the Long Journey to Pelaw to play the Grange Dogs.Pelaw Grange Dogs FC 5 Sedgefield Net Park Fc 3This was a really entertaining match considering Pelaw Grange Dogs Fc only had 11 players due to 7 others been out injured or away. The match started briskly with Sedgefield having the first attack on goal but within minutes found themselves 1 nil down from a goal from Pelaw grange Dogs David Fleming who having only touched the ball twice and playing his first ever 11 aside game had put the ball passed the Sedgefield keeper. Mark Stevenson then scored a neat goal before Eddy Quinn of the Pelaw Grange Dogs score a real screamer from about 35 meters. Sedgefield then pulled one back and this was all in the first 20 minutes. The game then settled down with some good play by both sides. Sedgefield then pulled another one back from a free kick but after the interval Pelaw Grange Dogs first made it 4-2 with another goal from Mark Stevenson and then another from Eddy Quinn before Sedgefield pulled one back from the penalty spot to make it 5-3 to Pelaw Grange Dogs FC. Pelaws goalkeeper Tony Johnson was in the wars a couple of times and had to receive some treatment after a goalmouth skirmish but Pelaw well deserved the victory. Next week Pelaw entertain free scoring Hartlepool Corporation Welfare FC in the County Cup . Pelaw Grange Dogs FC 5 Sedgefield Net park Fc 3. Hamsteels Inn were 3-0 winners at East Rainton Travellers Rest and Chilton Lodge were 4-1 Home winners Over Low Fell Gold Medal.
In the Fourth Division Chester Easy Street dropped their first points of the season in a tame 1-1 draw at New Durham wmc . Despite dominating possession for the majority of the game, chances were few and far between. New Durham found themselves 1-0 up midway through the 1st half courtesy of a mix-up between defender and goalkeeper allowing the opposition striker to poke the ball home. Easy Street tried to respond but the closest they came was to rattle the bar from a free kick from Craig Mickle. Craig Evans levelled the score line with a close range header from a corner and despite a late penalty appeal, neither team were able to find the winning goal. Chester Leonard’s Travelled to Quarrington Hill Wmc Another mediocre performance by the Leonard’s resulting in a 5 - 2 defeat. Alarm bells are ringing at Chester Leonard’s with manager Peter Newell threatening wholesale changes for the next game. Competitive midfield action was overshadowed by shocking defending and a lack of any meaningful attacking play. The return of missing players needs to result in significantly improved organisation and a return to basics. The manager is definitely looking for a win in the next fixture. The first Chester Leonard’s goal was scored from Zak Scott. A free kick was awarded on the left hand side of the 18 yard box and Scott stepped up to curl an audacious right footed effort past the 'keeper. Scott was involved in the second Leonard's goal too as a short corner was played to new signing Kevin Crawley. He took a touch before driving it into the back of the net via a deflection. Kelloe Davy Lamp were 5-3 winners at Durham Garden House, Ferryhill White Horse and visitors Framwellgate Moor Wmc shared the Points in a 3-3 Draw.

League News - Sunday 16th August 2009

The Prestigious League Cup in the Swinburn Maddison Durham Sunday Football League kicked of Last Sunday with a New Sponsor, Spennymoor Town Fc who have agreed to sponsor the Trophy this season.

Holders Of the Trophy Hetton Lyons Cricket Club who this season are playing at Spennymoors Northern League Ground opened their defence of the Trophy with a Solid 6-0 home win over the Plough Inn from Chester le Street. The Plough travelled away to Hetton Lyons Cricket Club in the 1st round of the League cup in what can only be described as an extremely difficult tie.

Right from the kick off the home side put pressure on the Plough and had us on the back foot. Hetton team completely dominated the opening game and had plenty of possession without threatening the away goal. The breakthrough came in the 12th minute when we gifted them a goal by giving away possession on the half way line, Hetton quickly broke down the left and crossed for the centre forward to head home. Hetton continued to press and doubled their advantage in the 20th minute when we cleared from a corner kick but didn’t get the 2nd ball; it fell to the feet of a Hetton player who made no mistake from 10 yards. Hetton managed to extend their lead in the 30th minute with a well worked goal, some neat passing resulted in the ball played down the right flank before being drilled across the goal for the centre forward to tap in from two yards. Once again Lyons came straight back at The Plough and continued to play some brilliant football and managed to make it 4-0 in the 35th minute with a superb team goal. Hetton's excellent passing and moving created an opening for the two forwards to then play a quick one two before firing home. H/T 4-0 the 2nd half told a different story as the away team raised their temp more and took the game to Hetton. The Plough managed to create a couple of good chances and possibly should have scored. Keith Lines had a couple of great efforts blocked by the centre half which were definitely goal bound and Joel Baddams also had a couple of good shots. Hetton did manage to increase their lead in the 55th minute when the ball was played down the right wing and then crossed in for the player to head past the outstretched hand of  Hetton Keeper Witherspoon. The away side continued to grow in confidence and got more involved in the game and started to pass the ball about. The Lyons finished the game off in the 75th minute with a moment of brilliance from the little number 10, the ball was played forward to the right hand side of the area, he managed to drag the ball back and then slip the ball past Curl before firing the ball in the back of the net. To Make the score 6-0 to Hetton Superb goal. Plough Midfielder Nathan Baddams man of the Match for the Plough. One final thing, on behalf of Chester-le-Street Plough Inn id just like to wish Hetton Lyons all the very best for season, they were all a good bunch of lads

A goal in 78 min from a well delivered cross from Paymon Farhang was converted by Neil Hughes. A first-class finish with the head from close range, but not enough for the Lambton Village as They Crashed to a 8-1 defeat at Chester Hilda Park. Premier League Side Houghton Glendale Social Entertained First Divison Side Waterhouses, it didn’t take the Glendale Long as they were 3-0 Up in the First 15 Mins thanks to goals from Chris Hall 2 and Luke Clarke, further Goals followed from Hall ,Clarke and Daniel  Petts to make the score 6-1 to the Glendale at Half Time , Second Half saw Hall add a Further Goal to make his Tally for the Game 4 , lee Andrews weighed in with Two Goals  to make the Final score 9-1 to the Houghton Glendale

At a wind swept Kelloe recreation park fourth division Kelloe Davey Lamp were no match for their division one visitors Washington Arms in the 1st round of the League Cup sponsored by Spennymoor Town FC. Starting the game with a stiff wind against them the Davey Lamp lads defended stoutly and were encouraged to go into the half time break only two down, a Danny Murray opener and a deflected own goal causing the damage. However Davey Lamp could not profit from the wind behind them and the Washington Arms went on to totally dominate the remainder of the game, a superb hat-trick from Carlo Barrass and Vinny Moran goal giving the Arms a comfortable 0-6 win. Pelaw Grange Dogs FC were away in the League Cup 1st round, sponsored by Spennymoor Town FC to Gilesgate Moor Hotel FC . Pelaw Grange Dogs gave The Gilesgate Moor Hotel too much respect in the 1st half and defended for the first 35 minutes without putting any pressure on Gilesgate. They then paid the price from a deflected free kick that was headed passed their keeper Tony Johnson in goal. Little changed up until half time. After the interval Pelaw had a good attacking move but then on the counter attack Gilesgate scored from close range to make it 2-0. Both sides then either hit the post or crossbars before substitute Anthony Nicholson for Pelaw scored with his first touch to make it 2-1. Gilesgate substituted 18 year old Craig McManus who had tired. Temporary keeper John Winter for Gilesgate kept the score at 2-1 with some point blank saves and Tony Johnson for Pelaw tipped the ball over the bar however in the last 2 minutes Gilesgate scored twice to make the score an unrealistic 4-1.The Match Referee Shaun Hudson had a very good Game.  Third Division side Sedgefield Net Park were well deserved winners against first division Houghton Mill All Stars in the first round of the League Cup sponsored by Spennymoor Town.Martin Broom netted twice to put Sedgefield 2-0 ahead and the lead may have been more but for some excellent saves from Mill keeper Dan Pearson. Mill left it late in the game before starting their fight back - Jamie Parker slammed the ball against the Sedgefield upright before Steve Fenn scored in the 75th and 85th minute to make it 2-2 and take the game into extra time.
Fenn was upended in the penalty area but got up to put away the resulting penalty kick for his hat trick and a 3-2 Mill lead, but Net Park soon struck back. Philip Tailorson equalised, and with only two minutes remaining and a penalty shoot out looming, Nicky Walker curled a wonderful left footed free kick from twenty yards out into the corner of the net for the winner. The Rams Head at Langley Park Needed extra Time to beat Visistors East Rainton Travellers Rest 6-5,Premier Side Brandon Bay Horse were 3-1 Home winners over Birtley Board Inn.

In the Only League Game played in the Fourth Division was a Washington Derby game between The Colliery Fact and Visitors the Oxclose Ox and Plough.Colliery were forced to change their Keeper fro this Game with regular keeper Alan Newbrook absent meaning Gordon Harrison played in goal. Michael Harmieson returned from absence.  This was our first home game for a long time but didn't immediately get to grips with the space. The Colliery opened the scoring when Craig Neal scored a header from close range following good team work and a good cross from brother Gavin who was recalled after being a sub on Tuesday. The Colliery should have kicked on from this but didn’t and the Ox pulled back shortly afterwards following some defensive uncertainty. Again we took the lead through Craig Neal after strike partner Mark Wallis played in a clever though ball but, the Ox fought back a second time. Half time the Colliery Made One Change John Kelly was replaced by Chris Trewitt. Mark Wallis had a good chance to score in his 3rd consecutive game to make it 3-2 a few minutes later but couldn't get enough on his close range header which went wide whilst under pressure. Dan Clark and Michael Harmison came on for Ross Docherty and Mark Wallis as The colliery went out to win the game those changes paid dividends a few minutes later with Dan Clark being denied a headed goal for the second week in a row, following a good save from the Oxclose keeper. The Colliery Finally did take the lead when Craig Neal got his hat trick with a really well taken finish. Craig Made it 4 with 10 minutes left, to take his tally to 6 goals in 3 games. But, in typical Colliery style we sat back and invited pressure when the Ox Scored again but we held on to make it 2 wins out of 2.

In the season’s opening fixture for Witton Gilbert Wmc from the Leagues 4th Division were pitted against Newton Aycliffe WMC from the Premier league. Witton, although on the back foot for long spells, gave a good account of themselves and there were several impressive performances, especially from Bryan Potts, Kieran Loan and Grant Boyd. They took the lead in the 18th minute when Barry Allport pounced on a defensive error and slotted the ball past the Aycliffe keeper. Aycliffe came storming back but the Witton defence held firm until the 38th minute when Aycliffe were awarded a fortuitous penalty which was despatched to bring the scores level and remained so to half time. The 2nd half saw Aycliffe’s superior fitness levels start to tell and they took the lead after some 54 minutes when a shot from some 23 yards took a wicked bounce past the diving Potts. A 3rd goal followed but Witton to their credit never gave up and sub David Callcutt saw a 22 yarder screamed just over the bar before a penalty was awarded to the home side when Barry Allport  was pushed to the ground. The subsequent penalty kick was brilliantly saved by the Aycliffe keeper who also somehow managed to keep out Allport’s follow up with another flying save. So it finished 3-1 to the Premiership club in what was a pleasant game to watch. In the first game of the season for Pelaw Grange Dogs Fc they were drawn away from home in the Castle Insurance Alan Smith Memorial Trophy Preliminary Round to new team in the league Durham Garden House who play at Framwellgate Moor School . Both sides started brightly and the Pelaw Dogs defence soon settled down. The game was quick and entertaining and then in around the 12th minute Mark Stevenson crossed the ball from the left wing for full back Phil Hawkins to head home. Around the 1/2 hour mark the referee George Bell allowed the advantage to be played after a hand ball and Pelaw created a good move for David Donnelly to score in the right hand corner of the net. Then just shortly before half time David Elders enjoying his right midfield role popped into the box to guide the ball into the back of the net to make it 3-0 to the Pelaw Grange Dogs by half time. In the second half the game continued at a good pace and was still entertaining with play from end to end. Garden House had two or three efforts well saved by the Pelaw Grange Dogs keeper Tony Johnston. Pelaw still looked dangerous in the second half although Paul Curry was struggling with an injury for most of the second half with an ankle injury and you could see several players wilting at the speed of the game and the heat. Garden House still came forward and brought three fresh players on but to no avail as the Pelaw Grange Dogs central defence of Stephen Venus and Andy Smiles stood firm. For the Dogs to progress into the Next Round. Durham Bede Lodge were beaten at Home to new Club Chester le Street Easy Street 4-1, Gilesgate Moor Hotel beat Visitors Neville’s Cross Social 5-0.Sacriston Cricket Club Travelled to High Handenhold to play the Bird Inn, This was a very difficult game and for long periods it looked like Sacriston  were going out of the competition, Finally winning 4-1, The First Sacriston Goal after  62 min Rob Draper fired home from close range with a well-finished headed goal, following a cross from Graham Embleton.the second  two mins later 64 min ,A well delivered cross from Graham Embleton was converted by Gary Draper.
