In the Preliminary round of the JD Taxis Guards Cup Cup holders Houghton Mill All Stars are through to the next round of the but only after a tough encounter with Nevilles Cross Social FC.Nevilles Cross took an early lead but Mill soon hit back with a Steve Fenn penalty, a James Cattell header and a Gary Adey shot to lead 3-1 at the interval.

After fifty five minutes Mill were reduced to ten men when Andy Adey was adjudged to be 'last man' after a foul on the edge of the penalty area and was subsequently red carded. A drab second half sprung into life in the last ten minutes. A superb goal from Mill's Steve Fenn started when he collected the ball wide on the left wing, he then rounded three players before blasting the ball into the roof of the net.

Nevilles Cross scored a consolation goal in the dying moments, the game ending in a 4-2 Mill win.Pelaw Grange Dogs entertained Gilesgate Moor Hotel Fc after having played them last week away. Although the score was the same this was a very different game. Gilesgate had made 6 or 7 changes from the previous week and swept into a 2 goal lead within 10 minutes but after 22 minutes a long shot by Eddy Quinn for Pelaw Grange Dogs crept into the right hand corner to make it 1-2 at half time. This was however after Gilesgate had hit the bar and post on two occasions. Shortly into the second half Pelaw Grange Dogs FC Andy Smiles had to come off injured and was replaced by David Elders who went into the left back position and Phil Hawkins moving into the centre. His brother Chris was then replaced by Anthony Nicholson which was a straight replacement.

After about a further 10 minutes Neil Worley for Pelaw was replaced by Luke Shalgosky but his first move cost Pelaw their full back David Elders as Lukes mistimed lunged tackle took his own full back down and out of the game with a badly bruised Shin and hip and left Pelaw with 10 men. Gilesgate then went 3-1 up from the penalty spot for a hand ball and then scored a fourth to make it 4-1 to them at the end.

Birtley Board Inn were  7-1 Home winners over Kelloe Davy Lamp.Third division side Bowburn Cooperage provided the opposition for Chester Plough Inn  as They Travelled to Bowburn  in the Guards Cup 1st round. The home side deservedly took the lead in the 10th when Dalglish was adjudged to have handled the ball, however from our view the ball definately struck him in the stomach. From the resulting free kick, their centre forward fired home with a low drive from 25 yards through a sea of bodies. The Plough did manage to get back in the game only five minutes later when we got a corner kick which was took by Ben Lloyd who put the ball straight on to the head of JOEL BADDAMS who rose superbly to head home. It didnt take long for the home team to regain their advantage. In the 20th minute the ball was given away on the left hand side and played down the flank before being crossed in, the ball took bobble and Lee McGuiness sliced the ball in to the path of the centre forward who drove past the outstretched hands of our keeper.

Things went from bad to worse only moments later when a speculative ball was played up field in to The Ploughs penalty area and some how Tony Dalglish placed the ball right in the corner for a howler of an own goal. This now gave away side an uphill battle but managed to get back into the game on the half hour. The ball was played down the right to Hill who done well beat his man before squaring to Seymour who's strike was blocked before coming back to JOEL BADDAMS who hit his shot first time, again it was blocked before he fired home the second attempt. H/T 3-2 The Plough Inn started the second half brighter but still weren't playing to their normal standards. Although we started to enjoy more of the posession we never provided any threat to the home goalkeeper.

The away team were dealt a killer blow in the 55th minute when the ball was played down the left hand side and again put in to area which should have been comfortably dealt with but unfortunately the goalkeeper came racing out and the ball bounced over his head and into the empty net. The away team now looked pretty dead and buried and offered no come back until as late as the 75th minute when they really started to press the home team back.

The Plough now started to create a hatfull of chances and managed to pull a goal back in the 80th minute when the ball was played into the area and Jamie Seymour''s shot was blocked before falling to the feet of DANIEL HILL who made no mistake from 6 yards out. This now set up a grandstand finish to the cup tie and looked as though the away team were going to get an equaliser.

The Plough switched formation and went 3-4-3 and really went and attacked the home side in a bid to get the equaliser. Chris Cuthbertson forced the keeper to make and outstanding save and also agonisingly put the ball over the bar from only two yards. Substitute John Forster also looked to have scored when he chipped the keeper only to see the ball come back from hitting the cross bar and hacked away to safety. Bowburn Cooperage managed to hold on in the remaining minutes to go through to the next round. F/T 4-3 Goals from Allen Robson, James Davidson and Two from Damien Baston gave Chester Easy Street a 4-1 Home win over Sacriston Wmc.
