Langley Win First Final Off the Season

By Groundhopper

The final of the
D&P Trophies Knockout Cup brought together premier Division clubs Langley Park Wmc and Houghton Glendale Social who put on great a display to entertain the large crowd at New Ferens Park, Durham. Glendale have the best of the opening spell but it is Langley Park who have the first opportunity, an early Craig Coates pass into the path of Chris Reed should have been the opener. Glendale’s continued pressure pays off on the twenty second minute mark when Chris Bond heads a near post cross into the corner of the net. Langley Park reply with two good efforts from man of the match Craig Coates but keeper Dean Saunders is in fine form and saves well. Midway through the second half a Graham Jones cross finds Craig Coates unmarked at the far post, he duly equalisers with a glancing header which creeps just inside the post. Both teams go all out in search of a winner and after forty minutes referee Colin Piggott awards Glendale a penalty for a hand ball on the edge of the box, Barry Turton hammers the spot kick home but the lead is short lived. Langley Park pile forward in search of a lifesaving equaliser and are rewarded with the goal of the game from Craig Coates, a fine individual effort on the stroke of full time. Extra time fails to produce a winner and the result of the match is decided by a penalty shot out, both teams score their first three kicks but Glendales fourth is saved by keeper Dan Molyneux, Langley Park score their final two to win the shot out 5 – 4.

Premier Division Hetton Lyons Cricket Club Drew 1-1 with Visitors the Bay Horse, Burnmmor Cricket Club Lost 2-1 at Newton Aycliffe.

Division One Chester Hilda Park kept up their promotion challenge with a 3-1 home win over Houghton Mill All Stars. Chester were 2-0 ahead at the break - a right wing corner deflected off Tony Chapman for the first and Josh Dyer smashed the ball past Mill keeper Ian Price for the second. Mill started well in the second half and after sixty five minutes reduced the deficit to 2-1 after some fine interplay on the right wing - Scot Watson fed Nick Thompson who ran to the bye line to produce a delightful hard low cross into the goalmouth for Steve Fenn to knock
home. However Mill's fight back ended ten minutes later when a Hilda Park break out from defence ended with Nathan Burnett lobbing the ball over keeper Price to seal the game at 3-1.

In the
Third Division Pelaw Grange Dogs FC entertained Bowburn Cooperage,This was the last game of the season and both teams were in good spirits until a threw ball after 5 minutes was put just beyond Chris Hawkins and Mark Stevenson in the penalty box and the keeper came out and made contact with Mark who went over and broke his leg. When the game restarted Pelaw Grange Dogs FC brought there two substitutes on David Fleming and Anthony Nicholson as sweeper Ian Pine went with Mark. Although Pelaw Grange Dogs FC had plenty of possession it wasn't until 5 minutes into the second half when Neil Worley fired home a well taken goal. Not long later a cross found Anthony Nicholson towards the far edge of the penalty box and he volleyed his shot in with the ball bouncing in front of goal before hitting the roof of the Bowburn net. Chris Hawkins then dribbled his way in from the right wing and across the front of goal but Anthony Nicholson from a yard out fired the ball off Chris's foot to wrap the match up at 3 nil for the Pelaw Grange Dogs FC to finish on a winning note. Tony Johnston had a good game in goal for the Pelaw Grange Dogs FC and Bowburn brought there manager on 10 minutes from the end. The Lyons Roar into another Final!

By Groundhopper

In the Durham County Football Association Sunday Cup Semi – Final two Clubs from the Premier Divison met each other, Hetton Lyons Cricket Club and Visitors Brandon Bay Horse the Game started well, the Lyons nearly paid the penalty for missed chances and should have been 3 goals up in the first 15 minutes but the visitors took the lead after the half hour when Lyons keeper fouled the Brandon Bay Horse Forward , Gavin Mudd stepped up and scored from the Penalty spot (0-1) for the rest of half the Lyons showed very little.Lyons Started at a much better pace in the second half and they got the equalizer after 55 minutes when Substitute Craig Ruddy hit the ball from 25yds giving the Bay Horse keeper no chance (1-1). The Lyons took the lead 6 minutes later when a cross from Ruddy and the Brandon defender headed in to his own net (2-1). Brandon pulled the scores level shortly after when a Lyons defender handled the ball in the penalty box and Gavin Mudd scored from the spot again(2-2). Hetton Lyons got the winning goal in the 85th minute when substitute Jason Ainsley took the corner and the Lyons defender Daniel Moore got away from his marker and scored with a diving header (3-2). The Lyons should have put the game well out of reach with great chances from Cogdon and Rae but the Bay Horse keeper blocked them. Full time 3-2.

Chester Easy Street Fc progressed to the final of the Deerness Driveways Presidents Trophy with a comprehensive victory over Division Three side Sedgefield Net Park.

Having already progressed to the Castle Insurance Alan Smith Trophy Final two weeks ago, the tantalising prospect of meeting local rivals the Osbourne in the final was enough to drive Easy to victory. In extremley blustery conditions the match was largely one sided despite the gale force winds preventing any real play from either side. Attacking against the wind in the first half, Easy Street showed their class despite the adverse conditions with some slick passing and moving. Craig Mickle should have opened the scoring mid way through the half but saw his shot trickle wide. The striker did turn provider soon after as he wriggled away from his markers on the left and played a sumptious pass into Carl Ritchie who slid the ball into the net first time. They did however have to defend resolutley with Sedgefield looking to take advantage of playing with the wind. However their tall strikers lacked any real pace to catch up with the ball which was continually hoofed upfield.

Net Park did have the chance to equalise late in the first half. A right wing corner was flicked on in the box and EasyStreet had keeper James Davidson to thank for the deflecting the ball away with his face. The second half was much of the same with Easystreet playing with the wind and firing an endless amount of shots at the beleaguered Sedgefield keeper. They did double their lead early into the half with Mark Peck nodding home Anthony Davisons inswinging corner. Mickle then got his name on the scoresheet for the 44th time this season, cutting in from the right and smashing a shot into the net with his left foot. Mickle and Peck almost made it 4-0 but their efforts both crashed against the crossbar. Pecks inparticular would have been spectacular with the defender volleying from inside his own half only to his effort smack off the bar. Final Score Sedgefield Net Park 0 Chester Easystreet fc3.

In the Premier Division Pelton ROAB Travelled to Ferryhill Wmc and Goals In the 65 min from Luke Kerry A clinical individual goal and a moment of inspiration! Good lead up play led to Luke Kerry going on a solo run, and scoring a right footed goal from close range yards and a Further Goal from Kerry in the 78 Min Luke Kerry fired home from 18 yards out with a clinical right foot goal, following a decent through-ball. To Give Pelton a 2-1 away Win. Last Seasons Premier League Champions Kelloe wmc were 4-0 Home winners Over Burnside Wmc.Thier was a Comfortable win for Sedgefield St Eds, as they travelled to Langley Park W mc .Langley had the strong wind first half and managed one shot against the bar. After that it was all St Ed's, Keith Flockett getting 2 and Brian Fairhurst getting the other. Newton Aycliffe wmc were 4-2 Home winners Over Houghton Glendale Social.

In the First Division Sacriston Wmc were 2-1 Winners at Birtley Board Inn, In the Big Washington Derby Washington JFC beat the Biddick Inn 3-0, Washington Arms Travelled to Waterhouses and shared the Points in a 0-0 draw. Gilesgate Moor Hotel were 4-1 winners at Houghton Mill All Stars.

In the Second Division Chester Plough Inn were on their travels again to high fliers Esh Steelers Fc looking to revenge their home defeat earlier in the season, when two late goals robbed the cestrians of victory. The home side won the toss and decided to kick up field and immediately enjoyed most of the possession. Steelers used the extra man in midfield well and created a few early openings. It was around the twenty minute mark that the home side took the lead, when a well struck free kick came back from Daglish and the Steelers players were first to react and poke the ball home from close range. Steelers came straight back at The Plough and thought they had doubled the lead soon after when their striker hit a cracking shot from distance, only to see Tony Daglish the Plough Keeper dive full strength to tip it over the bar, top drawer save from the cat! The home side did manage to score around ten minutes later with a great piece of football. The Steelers midfield man played a fantastic cross through field ball in behind Simm for his team mate to run onto a fire a low drive into the corner of the net, Once again the home side had a fantastic opportunity to put the game beyond doubt when the striker had a one on one with the keeper, only for Daglish to save well again. The away side struggled to get a foot on the ball and were very sloppy with possession in the first period but hoped to turn it around after the break. H/T 2-0 to the Steelers The Plough were now kicking up the slope and enjoyed more of the ball in this early period. Joel Baddams was very busy up front and Keith Lines was working tirelessly up and down the left flank. Tony Daglish was once again called into action when he saved well at the strikers feet to keep his side in the game. Steelers pushed forward again and had a number of very good chances but a combination of poor finishing and last ditch blocks kept the Steelers side from increasing their lead. Their were no further Goals in the second Half the Steelers winning 2-0. Pelton Fc were 9-3 winners at Bishop Middleham Cross Keys, Chilton Wmc returned to winning ways with a 4-3 Home win over Sherburn Lambton Arms.Coxhoe wmc and Durham Bede Lodge shared the Points in a 1-1 draw. West Rainton came out best in a 5 Goal thriller against visitors Pittington Fc Rainton winning 3-2. Chester Osborne travelled to Ushaw Moor Cricket Club , it was Chris Winn who scored four goals before the half time whistle. Some good passing play lead to the 4 goals in the first half which included a penalty as Chris Days was brought down in the area. The Osborne sat back a little in the second half and substitute Michael Toon scored five minutes from time with a cool finish from 18 yards aftre some good play by Chris Davison,Final Score Ushaw Moor Cricket Club 0 Chester Osborne 5

In the Third Division Washington Usworth Top Club were 3-1 winners at Houghton Chilton Lodge,Low Feel Gold Medal were 4-3 Home winners over Visitors East Rainton Travellers Rest, This was the second Sunday that the Pelaw Grange Dogs Fc had played shadforth Plough with a draw in both games. Shadforth Plough took the lead early on from a corner that blew or curled into the Pelaw's net at the far post. however they came straight back within 5 minutes and levelled it 1-1 with a goal low struck past Shadforths keeper by Neil Worley. Pelaw should of had the game wrapped up by half time after some good work but although only a yard out both the strikers failed to turn the ball into the goal and eventually it was cleared. Eddie Shanks was then up ended in the penalty box and Referee Dennis Matuszek had no hesitation in giving the penalty however Shadforths keeper saved the penalty and held onto the ball. The second half was a dour affair but again Pelaw Grange Dogs kicking with the wind should of went ahead if Chris Hawkins had left the ball alone to go into the net and was rightly ruled off side. Before this the ball looked from the side line that a shot had crossed the line to be pulled back by the keeper but there was no appeal from the Pelaw Grange Dogs Players. The final score been 1-1. Eddie Quinn replaced Mark Stevenson with about 25 minutes to go but had little effect mainly due to the strong wind as both sides tried to keep the ball down.

In the Fourth Division Neville’s Cross travelled to near neighbos Durham Garden House only to Loose 2-1, Ferryhill White Horse were 2-0 Home winners Over Witton Gilbert Wmc, Kelloe Davy Lamp won 2-0 at Framwellgate Moor Wmc.High Handenhold Bird Inn recorded their highest away win of the season winning7-3 at Oxclose Ox and Plough Inn. A tremendous free-kick by Craig Marron, guided home with the right foot from outside the area. To Give pelton a 2-0 lead. Sedgefield added a Goal just after Half Time it looked like a 2-1 to Pelton  Then On 87 min Some good work from Keith Gamble led to a goalmouth scramble. Chester Osborne were hosts to Chiton club in the quarter finals of the JD Taxis Gaurds cup, and it was the Osborne who progressed to the next round after a 6-4 win.
Chilton went one up in the first five mins only for Wes Hood to reply straight away at the other end. Once again Chilton pushed and were rewarded with another not long after only for Wes Hood to reply again soon after with a header into the top corner from an Andrew Willcock free kick.Chilton went ahead again but were unable to keep their lead and Lloyd Mcgee calmly finished from 15 yards to make it 3-3.The Osborne pushed again and Wes Hood managed to squeeze home a header at the back post for the osborne to take the lead for the first time in the game before Chilton equalized.Chris Winn took the ball down the left to play a perfect pass into Chris Days who calmly flicked the ball past the Chilton keeper. Both teams pushed in a tiring game before and it was Wes Hoods fourth of the game that sealed it, firing past the Chilton Keeper from 20 yards.

In the First Division Lumley Fc crashed to a 5-2 Home defeat from visitors Esh Winning Cricket Club Niki Robson and Andy Armstrong scoring for Lumley. Due to injuries and absentees the Division One leaders Washington Arms turn out an under strength side that still proves to be too strong for lowly Sacriston Wmc. The game is decided in the first half with all the goals coming before the break. Michael Ramsey, normally the Arms keeper but relishing playing up front opens the scoring after fifteen minutes. However Sacriston soon hit back with the goal of the game, a rasping twenty five yarded giving stand in keeper John Lawless no chance.  Late in the first half a brace of goals for Michal Stubbs is enough to ensure the three points go to the Washington Arms. In division one Houghton Mill All Stars were very unfortunate to come away from Washington JFC empty handed. After twenty minutes Mill's Steve Malloy rounded keeper David Smith only to see his shot scooped off the goal line by Joni Grainger. Fifteen minutes later Mill were unlucky again when Jamie Parker rattled the Washington post with a shot from fifteen yards out.The game remained stalemate until half way through the second half whena badly timed tackle from Mill's James Cattell gave away a penalty kick from which Brian Roussell cooly placed the ball into the corner of the net for 1-0. Mill kept on attacking the JFC goal but despite several attempts they failed to score. In the dying moments of the game Mill had one last push for the equaliser but left themselves open at the back and a JFC breakaway in the 90th minute left Marc Briggs with only keeper Pearson to beat to seal the game at 2-0.

In the Second Division Second Placed The Steelers entertained Durham Bede Lodge it  was Steelers' second game of the 2009/10 season run-in and it finished with a 3 - 0 victory to the home side. Goals came from Liam Bowes, Adam Malekpour & Stephen Clifford. The game ended 0 - 0 at half time, but Steelers were the dominant side in the second half when they scored all three all of their goals. Adam Malekpour picked up the MOM award from the opposition, but Chris Welch had a great game among a strong defence. Pelaw Grange Dogs travelled to East Rainton to Play the Travellers Rest.thw First 10 Mins saw the Dogs dominate the game but a fierce shot against the run of play from East Rainton could only be parried into the Pelaw's net by keeper Wayne Laws after about 10 minutes. Once again Pelaw dominated the game but couldn't score. Mark Stevenson went close when he broke free only to be first thwarted by East Raintons keeper Thomas Hotchless and then a blocked by a defender. Then after about 30 minutes East Rainton were lucky not to go down to 10 men when Gary Newman threatened one of the Pelaw players but even though Pelaw's keeper Wayne Laws, who was 20 meters and heard it plainly,  protested to the referee the play was waved on. Pelaw then went 2 nil down before the break. Shortly after half time Pelaw changed their formation pushing David Donnelly into midfield and this soon resulted in a goal from David Donnelly to make it 2-1 but then an awarkward cross ball, that was handled first by the East Rainton player they saw themselves go 3-1 down. Pelaw then scored in the 88th minute when a shot from David Donnelly was deflected only for Chris Hawkins to run onto the ball and score to make it 3-2 at the final whistle. This seems to be Pelaw's boggy team as they have dominated games against them but always failed on this pitch that was particularly slippy in the middle with several players falling when turning.

The Big Game in the Third Division saw a Big Washington Derby Leaders Washington Victoria INN travel to fourth placed and near neigboughs Washington Usworth Top Club the Victoria bossed the game throughout and Usworth keeper made a number of good saves to stop the score increasing further. Paul Kindon and Andrew Cameron put the Victoria into a 2-0 lead at half time, before a fine overhead kick from Ryan Mason put us 3 up 5 minutes into the 2nd half. The Top Club got a goal from a corner with rare forage forward but Darren Naisbett came off the bench to restore the three goal advantage not long after. This Made the Final score 4-1 to the Victoria.

In the Fourth Division Goals in the 60 min from Zak Scott Converted from just inside the box with a right footed finish, it was a well-finished goal! The move started with some clever play from Richard Brennan. And in the 75 min - Steven Dixon Good lead up play from Will Newell led to Steven Dixon scoring from just outside the area with the nicely placed left foot shot. Were not enough for Chester Leonard’s as they Crashed to a 6-2 Home defeat from High Handenhold Bird Inn? Hetton Lyons Cricket Club   2 – 1   Salisbury Ath  (Liverpool)
Byrne 75 (pen) Cogdon 83                 Stafford  5

Hetton Lyons Cricket Club  had to work hard for this win and for the first time in this seasons competiton coming from a goal behind to win. Salisbury Athletic Fc  got off to a dream start when in the 5th minute with some good football around the 18 yard box Stafford the Salisbury Forward hit the ball towards towards goal and a wicked deflection gave the Lyons keeper Kieth Finch  no chance (0-1). The Liverpool side were  on a high and 5 minutes later  Keith Finch pulled of a great save from the Salisbury striker Sean Chart, Salisbury came close again when a shot from outside the 18 yard  area hit the crossbar. The Lyons finally got the wake up call and realised they had a fight on there hands a free kick from Steven Capper saw his effort pushed on to the bar from the Salisbury keeper and cleared away.

The second half got underway and the Lyons upped the pace and effort, Salisbury seemed happy to play 5 along the back and defend there 1 goal, Hetton changed things around after 60 minutes  Gavin Cogden came on for defender Callum Griffiths and Keith Graydon replaced the weary Daniel Moore in midfield, Leon Ryan went back to the defence and the Lyons went to a 3-5-2 formation and they looked much better, Graydon  hit the bar from 30 yards and a brilliant save from the Salisbury keeper Willis kept out Chris Bell’s shot. The Lyons got there first goal in the 75th minute when Bell crossed the ball from the right and the full back put his hand up to stop the cross the referee pointed to the penalty spot, Warren Byrne stepped up to smash the ball in the back of the net (1-1).In the 83rd minute the Lyons scored there 2nd goal, Steve Capper pushed the ball through to Gavin Cogdon who beat 2 defenders and hit the ball wide of the keeper giving him no chance (2-1). In the Premier Division Burnmoor Cricket Club Travelled to Burnside wmc, the two clubs met last week with Burnside winning 3-1. Burn moor took the lead in the 14 min - An inspired solo goal by Tim bowman, scored from long range with the left foot. It was a first-class effort... the move originally started with some good work from Neil Errington. 4 Mins Later Burnmoor went further ahead. A well delivered cross from Paul Taylor was converted by Andy hall. A great finish with the right foot from close range. Burnmoor were now starting to play some good football and on 25 Mns made it 3-0, Andy hall supplied the through-ball, and Paul Taylor found the net from just inside the box with a speculative right footed effort. On 30 Mins A well delivered cross from Andy hall was converted by Paul Taylor. A great finish with the right foot from 18 yards out. No further goals in the second Half Burnmoor wining 5-0.Brandon Bay Horse and Visitors Houghton Glendale shared the Points in a 3-3 draw. Sedgefield st Edmunds were 3-0 Home winners Over Sacriston Cricket Club.

In a cracking game at Washington Glebe Park First Division leaders Washington Arms let a two goal advantage slip to go down 2-3 to Gilesgate Moor Hotel. The Arms get off to a great start Wayne Kennedy heading home a well worked corner after three minutes, two minutes later Danny Murray makes it two nil after going around stranded keeper James Winter. Gilesgate get back into the game after Arms keeper Michael Ramsey upends the lively Andrew Ward on the edge of the box, Craig Snowdon hammering home the resultant penalty. Ten minutes into the second half Gilesgate are back on level terms, Andrew Ward capitalising from hesitation in the Arms defence rounds the keeper to slot the ball home. The remainder of the game is dominated by the Arms who press forward in search of a decider but the resilient Gilesgate defence protect their goal well. A stunning save by Gilesgate keeper James Winter is the closest the Arms come to scoring and with ten minutes remaining the almost inevitable breakaway goal seals the game, Andrew Ward grabbing the winner that moves Gilesgate up into second place. Houghton Mill All Stars beat Lumley FC 1-0 in a very close encounter.Mill's Chris Rogerson very nearly gifted Lumley an early lead when his wayward pass landed nicely for Stephen Wood to run at goal. However, Rogerson reacted quickly and raced to make a goal saving tackle. The only goal of the game came after twenty five minutes when from ten yards out Gary Adey half volleyed past keeper Young after some fine play from Mill's Steve Malloy. Lumley had the ball in the net after seventy five minutes when Richard Kay blasted home from close range only for it to be ruled out for off side.Keeper Dan Pearson made some fine saves throughout to keep a clean sheet for Mill.

In the Only Game Played in the Second Divison Adam Malekpour scored 4 and a double man of the match award as Steelers FC ran out 9-1 winners away to Bishop Middleham Cross Keys. Liam Bowes and Stephen Clifford both scored twice with younger brother Jamie Clifford scoring once to make up the other goals. The Keys did get a consolation goal near the end but it was a fine victory for the reds after so little football of late.

In the Third Division Washington Victoria  travelled to Ferryhill to play the Dynamo’s. The Victoria  made an excellent start to the game, Mark Liddle lobbing the Dynamo’s  keeper from an acute angle in the first minute of the game. After that the Victoria  laboured a bit, half chances came and went . At half time the Victoria were leading 1-0 lead knowing it would be easier going into the second half kicking downhill. A defensive mix up following a Ferryhill  Dynamo’s corner saw the Victoria concede a sloppy goal to make the scores 1-1.The Victoria regained the lead soon after, Steven Douglas finding the back of the net after good work from Paul Kindon. The Victoria  kept the pressure up and Andrew Cameron scored with a fine header following a corner. The Final score on 90 minutes was Dynamo’s 1 -3 Washington Victoria. Houghton Chilton Lodge and Shadforth Plough Inn shared the Points in a 3-3 Draw.Framwellgate Moor Salutation crashed to a 6-0 defeat at East Rainton Travellers Rest.

In the Fourth Division Chester Leonard’s Travelled to Washington to play Washington Colliery. A good performance from the Chester-le-street Leonard’s Fc, but once again nothing to show for it as Leonard’s shot themselves in the foot with some shabby defending. Leonard’s were much improved, and looked to build on their 2nd half performance from last week against New Durham. Leonard’s were  4-0 down at half time  Leonard’s continued to Battle in the 2nd half, and Clarkson began the fight back with a coolly taken spot kick after Newell had been upended. This was continued a few minutes later with Clarkson drilling across goal for Shipley to expertly back heal into the net. To make the score 2-4  to the Colliery Leonard’s thought they were right back in the game when Fryer thought he's added a 3rd from a corner, only for it to be ruled out for a challenge on the 'keeper, a decision, Fryer later admitted, was correct. This seemed to knock a bit of the wind out of Leonard’s' sails, and although Newell struck a post, Washington's striker added a clinical 5th off the post with 15 minutes remaining which seemed to kill the game as a contest. A mention for female referee Linzi Robinson for another excellent display with the whistle. Leonard’s will need to be more clinical in front of goal in future, and cut out the goals gifted to the Opposition. Langley Park Rams Head Travelled to Ferryhill to play the White Horse, Both sides shared the points in a 2-2 draw. Hihgh Handenhold Bird Inn were not firing on all four cylinders today as they entertained  a well organised Kelloe Davey Lamp .But with goals from Craig Lavery,Jonathan Swift and Marc Wood the Bird battled out a 3-2 win M.O.M for the Bird keeper Tony Liddle.

Chester Osborne progressed into the next round of the Deerness Driveways presidents cup after an excellent first half dislpay at Sedgefield Black Lion.
Chester Osborne were 3-0 up at the break with goals from Andrew Willcock, Chris Days and an own goal from Black lions defence. Osborne went 4-0 up through a fine solo effort from Chris Days. Osborne sat back at 4-0 and missed a few good chances and invited Black Lion to get back into the game scoring twice to make it 4-2 before Chris bennett scored and another own goal ensured that The Osborne went through. Sedgefield scored another late on.
The Final Score Black lion 3 Chester Osborne 6

With five minutes remaining Birtley's Ben Dinnery headed in another free kick to make it 3-2 leaving a nervous last few minutes for Mill but they hung on to take all three points.Esh Winning Cricket Club were 5-1 Home winners Over Fatfield Biddick Inn.Gilesgate Moor Hotel won 2-0 against visitors Waterhouses Fc, a goal each from Anthony Chapman and Sam Johnson gave Chester Hilda Park a 2-1 away win at Sacriston Wmc.League Leader Washington Arms were 4-1 winners at Lumley Fc

In the Second Division Chester Plough Inn were back on home soil this morning entertaining Chilton WMC the Plough Manager Lee Johnson, handed a debut to new signing Niall Thubron in goal. The Plough were looking to continue on from last weeks good performance, however it was Chilton who started the brighter of the two sides. The away team passed the ball around well and had plenty of the opening play. The home side were giving away possession far too easily and allowing Chilton to play in the middle of the park. The away side thought they had grabbed the lead in the 20th minute when one of their midfield broke through on the right hand side of the area and fired in a great shot only to see Thubron in The Plough goal pull off a fantastic finger tip save onto the cross bar and away to safety. The away side came straight back at the home side and again Thubron pulled off another great save low to his left to keep his side in the game. Against the run of play The Plough took the lead with an unfamiliar type of goal. A long punt forward was flicked on by Daniel Hill for forward JOEL BADDAMS to run onto and coolly lobbed the keeper from 25 yards for a great finish. The goal seemed to increase the confidence for the home side as they applied a lot more pressure and finished the half the stronger of the two sides.
The Half Time Score 1-0 to the Plough. The Plough kicked off the second period and notched in the opening minute with a great team goal. Full back Tony Dalglish played a great ball down the right channel for Keith Lines, who beat his man and fired in a great cross which Daniel Hill flicked on for CHRIS CUTHBERTSON to poke home from close range. The goal gave the home side a bit more breathing space and hoped to go on and finish the game off. Chilton got a life line 5 minutes later when a long ball into the area was met by the head of one of their attackers and looped the ball high into the net. Substitute keeper Witherspoon made a fine save down to his right to keep his team in front, The Plough held strong for the last 20 minutes and restricted Chilton to long range efforts to take the 3 points and win 2-1.Durham Bede Lodge were 3-2 winners at Bishop Middleham Cross Keys, and Pelton Fc were 4-0 Home winners over Sherburn Lambton Arms.

On 5 min A ball from Paul Kindon led to a goalmouth scramble. Steven Wilson made no mistake with a textbook right footed finish from 18 yards out. 1-0 to the Vic then 15 min Paul Kindon fired home from close range with a clinical right foot goal, following a through-ball from Ryan Mason. 10 Mins Later Steven Wilson supplied the cross, and Paul Kindon found the net from just inside the box with a well-finished right footed effort. On 35 min Andrew Cameron fired home from 18 yards out with a well-finished headed goal, following a corner from Ryan Mason. To make 4-0 to the Vic in the second Half a well delivered cross from Steven Douglas was converted by Paul Kindon. A fine finish with the right foot from close range. Then on 75 min Paul Kindon added his fourth Goal and the Vic’s 6th firing home from 18 yards out with a tremendous right foot goal, following a through-ball from Steven Douglas. East Rainton did add a Consolation Goal final sore 6-1 to the Vic.Bowburn Cooperage were 4-0 winner at Framwellgate Moor Salutation, Hamsteels Inn Lost 5-2 at Washington Usworth Top Club.Shadorth Plough Inn were 9-2 Home winners over Ferryhill Dynamo’s.

In the Fourth Division High Handenhold Bird Inn entertained Witton Gilbert WMC First half saw a few chances fall to the bird Inn but none were taken and it was witton Gilbert who went in at half time 1-0 up. But a good team talk from manager Del Swift fired up the Bird who saw goals from Marc Wood, Neil Tiffen and a hatrick from Andy Smith kill off Witton Gilbert before sub Lee Curry scored two more in 10 mins to win the game 7-1.Key players were M.O.M Marc Wood for his goal that started the come back and his two assists and left back Shane Swift for his great performance in defence. Chester Leonard’s Crashed to a 3-0 defeat at Durham Garden House, Framwellgate Moor wmc were 5-1 winners at Neville’s Cross Social., New Durham Travelled to Washington to Play the Ox and Plough and were worthy 5-1 winners.Quarrington Hill wmc were 3-2 Home winners over Washington Colliery

In the 2nd round of the D & P Knockout Cup Pelaw Grange Dogs FC were away to Pittington FC at Sherburn Leisure Centre the first half was a dour affair with neither side deserving to be in front. After the interval Mark Stevenson of Pelaw Grange Dogs was brought down in the box the resulting penalty saw the Pelaw Captain Dave Donnelly hit the post and the ball was cleared. Then a long ball forward saw Chris Hawkins chase the high ball and the ball rebounded off his chest and past the keeper making it 1-0 to Pelaw Grange Dogs at around 55 minutes. Within 7 minutes another long ball saw Mark Stevenson go clear with only the keeper to beat and as the keeper dived Mark out it over the top of him to make it 2-0 to Pelaw Grange Dogs. Pelaws central defence of sweeper Stephen Venus and centre half's Scott Pattison and Andy smiles had played well all afternoon snuffling any efforts by Pittington. Houghton Glendale Social were 1-0 winners over Washington Lambton Village Inn.

In the JD Taxis Trophy 2nd Round .Chester Osborne Wmc travelled to Coxhoe Wmc only to find the Pitch unplayable so Both Teams and Match Referee Travelled to Washington the Osborne’s Home Pitch to make sure this fixture was played, both teams started brightly which continued throughout the game. The Osborne went 1-0 up through man of the match Chris Winn, Coxhoe club replied soon after and it was 1-1 at half time. After half time both teams pushed for the edge and it was Chris Winn who scored again to make it 2-1.Coxhoe pushed again but nerves were settled when Wes Hood Volleyed home from Andrew Willcocks corner.Chris Winn went on to complete his hatrick ten minutes before time, making the final score 4-1.In the Third Round Washington JFC were 3-1 winners at Sedgefield Black Lion.

Chester Easy Street Fc crashed out of the Spennymoor Town Fc League Cup with defeat at the hands of Premier League side Ferryhill WMC. With Damon Ellis, David Tyson and Carl Ritchie missing from last week, Jak Penny came back into a four man defence and Glen Taylor moved into the three man midfield as manager Michael Dalkin went back to his trusted 4-5-1 formation. But the first half was a complete disaster with the midfield failing to get a foothold on the game and Penny getting caught napping time and time again by the Ferryhill winger. Ferryhill did take a deserved lead midway through the first half with their front two exchanging passes before slotting home. Half time couldn't come quick enough but the second half started just as badly with Mickle failing to convert some good chances.
Ferryhill soon made Easy pay as they doubled their lead and looked to be heading into the fourth round.
But Dalkin showed his tactical onus by shifting Mark Peck upfront and going for a 3-5-2 formation that reinvigorated his side. Meckler eventually scored what turned out to be a consolation.
But for the last 20 minutes of the game Easy showed enough battle to merit an equaliser and Pecks looping header almost earned them one. But as the final whistle blew, it was a disappointing defeat for Easy Street as yet another cup dream ends

Luck deserts the Irish writes Groundhopper...

In the National Football Association Sunday Cup Competition, Huddersfield Irish Centre Fc were the Visitors to Spennymoor Towns Ground on Sunday to Face to face 2006 and 2008 winners of the Competition Hetton Lyons Cricket Club. Both sides looking to progress into the Quarter Final of the Competition. The Lyons and the Irish Centre both fielded very strong sides, The Lyons having to battle hard for the full 90 minutes against the well organised Irish Centre from Huddersfield. The visitors had the better of the chances in the first half but they couldn’t hit the goal, the Irish centre’s goalkeeper Brian Giles pulled off a brilliant save from Chris bell and shortly after that good work from Warren Byrne passed it to Gavin Cogden and his shot beat the Irish Centres keeper but smashed against the crossbar, Half Time saw the scores level at 0-0.

After the break both sides started brightly with some good football on display. The turning point came on the hour mark as the Hetton striker Byrne shot towards goal, Giles the Irish Centre Keeper had it covered comfortably; unfortunately the ball took a nasty bounce of the surface and bounced into the roof of the net passed a helpless Giles. A cruel way to go behind to make the scoreline 1-0 to Hetton. The Lyons kept pushing for another goal but the visitor’s keeper Giles pulled off some good saves, the Yorkshire side were pushing more men forward, looking to level the scores , but the Lyons defence kept strong to go in to the quarter final with a Hard Fought 1-0 win. Hetton Lyons Cricket Clubs All England FA Sunday Cup 3rd Round against Liverpool side Poulton Royal Finallly got played on Sunday, the game originally to be played in Liverpool was cancelled twice due to the weather then the tie was again cancelled as it was moved to Spennymoor the Home of the Lyons.A game that the Lyons have waited for seven weeks will be remembered for the result and not the game.  It took a long time for the game to get going and it was the final ball that was lacking for the Lyons, the visitors had very few chances in fact the Lyons keeper  not having to make a save in the first 45 mins as the Lyons defence gave nothing away. In the 17th minute Lewis Dodds put a great ball through for Chris bell to beat the offside trap and slipped the ball past the Poulton keeper to make it 1-0.Bell nearly doubled his tally just before half time after his shot beat the keeper but the Poulton defender cleared it of the line halt time 1-0.Second half got under way with once again the ball being more in midfield than anywhere else with Ainsley and Dodds in the thick of it. After the hour mark a triple substition for the Lyons, Cogdon  Graydon and Moore for  Ainsley  ,Lowther and Toft,Bradley Groves the Lyons manager changed it to a 5-3-2 formation and they upped  the pace of the game and in the 73rd minute in paid off, Graydon won the ball knocked it wide to Capper on the left wing who put it through to Cogdon, he turned the defender inside out and smacked the ball across the keeper who had no chance to make it 2-0 to the Lyons, the visitors would have make the long way back to Liverpool very disappointed that they were very poor on the day.

Extra Time needed for Kelloe wmc to progress
By Groundhopper
Kelloe WMC FC entertained Birtley Barley Mow wmc in the last 16 of the Durham Football Association Sunday county cup.  Both teams started well without creating many chances.  After the break with the pitch becoming heavier, Birtley started well again and took the lead through a penalty when Tom Orton brought down the Birtley striker inside the box.  As the game continued Birtley became tired and started to concede a lot of free kicks resulting in their centre half been sent off for a second bookable offence.  Then Kelloe equalised with a great finish from outside the box from Stuart Thompson.  The game ended 1 - 1 after 90 minutes and in extra time Kelloe dominated with the extra man and wasted numerous chances before Chris Smith dribbled inside the box and scored with a cool top corner strike with only 1 minute left.

In the  League’s Premier Division  Houghton Glendale entertained Burmoor Cricket Club ,due to the weather both clubs going 7 weeks without a game,1st half was always going to be a struggle for both sets of players who haven’t played for so long, lot of poor touches and sloppy play in 1st 20 mins of the game,Burnmoor were a goal down on 30 mins after some poor defending .In the second Half Burnmoor looked for the equalizer and this came on 55 min A well delivered cross from Andy hall was converted by lee Wright. Lumley dominated possession but failed to create the cutting edge. A battling stalemate opened up late on and both keepers made saves to keep the scores at 0-0. With 4 minutes remaining Lumley stole the points with a fine finish from Ward. The Washington Arms moved into second place in Division One with a fine four nil victory over Birtley Board Inn. After a goalless first half in which both teams looked decidedly rusty after the long break caused by the recent bad weather the Arms take the lead with a fortunate goal, a miss hit cross falling kindly to Danny Murray who volleyed home from close range. The Board Inn press forward in search of an equaliser however a solid Arms defence well marshalled by David Lyall comfortably deal with any threats. In a ten minute spell the Arms put the result beyond doubt. Michael Stubbs heads home a great Danny Noble cross to make it two nil, two minutes later Danny Murray grabs his second latching on to a miss hit clearance from the keeper. The hard working Chris Morrison completes the scoring finishing off the move of the game with a well struck strike from the edge of the box.

The second half was a different story with Leonard’s pressing hard and got a foothold in the game with a neat finish following a great through ball to make 2-1.With 15 minutes left though Witton got the killer goal when Ian Renwick was brought down in the area and got up to despatch the resultant penalty into the corner. With Leonard’s pushing forward there were opportunities for Witton to extend their lead with Paul Finnegan going close on 2 occasions and Barrie Allport blazing over from 10 yards with the goal at his mercy, somewhat dampening an otherwise very impressive individual display. A mention should also go to the referee Paul Burt who had an excellent game. Langley Park Rams Head were 4-0 winners at Durham Garden House; the Bird Inn won 2-1 at Quarrington Hill WMC.. In the Durham County Football Association Sunday Cup 2nd Round Holders Hetton Lyons Cricket Club moved into the next round with a comfortable 8-0 Home win over the Sunderland Sunday League Side the Jolly Potter . The weather conditions were horrendous but the Lyons do what they do best and played football for 90 minutes. The Jolly Potter came to the Spennymoor Ground with the reputation of being one of the best sides in the Sunderland Sunday League and in the last round of the County cup defeating Plains farm wmc. The Jolly Potter on the day failed to Turn Up, they had just one shot at goal and they were outclassed from start to finish in every department by the rampant Hetton Lyons. Hetton went 1-0  up after 17 mins great work from Ruddy on the right hand side and crossed for Lawther who side footed it in. In the 28th min it was a penalty for the Lyons, Lawther was brought down in the box and from the penalty the goalkeeper saved from Byrne and from the rebound he smashed it against the crossbar. Warren Byrne got his 1st goal in the 41st minute, a thru ball from Gareth Waite and Byrne  ran on to it the beating 2 defenders and the going round the keeper and slotting the ball home, half time 2-0.

The second half got under way and the rain was getting heavier  the Lyons made it 3-0 after 50 mins, a great cross from Waite and Byrne hit the ball giving the Potters keeper no chance. Daniel Moore came on for Lewis Dodds after 66mins and with first touch scored, Lawther collected the ball from the half way line and ran at the defence leaving them for dead he then shot at goal with the keeper on the edge of the box who saved it with his feet and rebounded to Moore who Lobbed it over everyone from 25 yds to make it 4-0.  John toft created the 5th goal after73 mins with a great run and jumping over the Potters defenders and his shot was saved and Byrne was there for the rebound and his hat-trick to make 5-0.The next 4 goals came in the space of 4 mins, Lawther beat the offside trap to make it 6-0 then Chris Bell was fouled in the box and Lawther claimed his hat-trick from the penalty spot and in the 89th minute the Lyons made it 8-0 with Moore’s  shot was parried  and Bell scored from the rebound. John Toft finally got on the score sheet with a neat one-two with Ainsley and gave the keeper no chance. Full time 9-0.

Hetton Lyons proved today the could play football whatever the weather and full credit to everyone, the defence didn’t give there forwards a sniff at goal, Ainsley and Dodds in the  middle showed them how to win a ball and pass it, and the forwards never stopped battering there goal. Jolly Potters were very disappointing and the finished with 10 men. Brandon Bay Horse also had a Comfortable Home win 8-2 over Stockton Sunday League Side Stockton Sun Inn.Kelloe Wmc Travelled to Easington to Play the HMS Victory Club and in a very close Game progressed to the next Round with a 2-1 win.Sedgfield St Edmunds entertained Trimdon the Dovecote in very heavy conditions they were 4-0 winners. Pelton ROAB’s Game at Darlington DSRM All stars was cancelled due to the waterlogged Pitch. Houghton Glendale Social Crashed out of the Competition Losing 5-0 at Sunderland Sunday League Side Hastings Hill. Langley Park Wmc were 4-0 Home winners Over Hartlepool Rovers Quoits Club. Chester Easy Street crashed out of the County Cup after a disappointing display against Gateshead Premier League side Barley Mow. In treacherous conditions which, almost caused the match to be called off, didn't help matters as Barley Mow showed their supremacy over their fourth division opponents. The Gateshead champions had the best possible start to the game, scoring after two minutes. A ball in from the right was headed against David Tyson and the resulting cross was headed into the net by the unmarked Barley number nine. Easy Street tried to hit back but the conditions were hampering their play although a moment of brilliance from Allen Robson almost unlocked the tight Barley Mow defence. A sumptuous ping from the outside of his foot almost allowed leading scorer Craig Mickle a chance, but his composure let him down at the vital time. Easy’ streets first real chance fell to Anthony Davison, whose left footed free kick looked destined for the bottom right corner only for the Barley keeper to pull off a great save. Easy Street  continued to press but always looked fragile when Barley Mow were pouring forward and their number 9 made it 2-0 on 24 minutes. The striker showed great strength and skill to skip past David Cowan and Steven Marriott before slotting a precise finish past James Davidson. Craig Mickle then had a glorious chance to give Easy Street some momentum going into half time but fluffed his lines at the vital moment. A deflected shot from Davison fell to Mickle who improvised an effort with his knee only to the ball hit the bar with an open goal gaping. Barley Mow secured the game five minutes into the second half. Good work from the number eight saw him sidestep Cowan and shot low past Davidson from the edge of the area, with the ball clipping the post before nestling in the back of the net. It was a hammer blow to Easy Street but they still battled on to maintain their pride and could have made it 3-1 on the hour mark. David Hope, who has been in good goal scoring form of late, smashed a speculative 25 yard effort that crashed back off the crossbar. But it was Davison who got the goal that Easy's endeavours deserved. The left wingers persistence was rewarded when his shot was deflected by the goalkeeper and into the net. But again, it was all in vain as James Davidson parried straight into the path of the number nine who completed his hatrick and made it 4-1.

But it was Easy who had the last laugh with David Hope scoring to make it 4-2. A long ball was taken by Davison who skipped past the keeper and crossed for Mickle. The lanky striker showed a great touch, strength and awareness to take it down, turn and lay it off to Hope who blasted in his 3rd in three games.

The final whistle blew soon after and despite a hearty performance Easy Street are out of the County Cup and will sure to be concentrating on their League form as they have a number of games in hand.

Pelton Fc fall to the Dogs

by groundhopper

In the D & P Trophies Knockout Cup 1st Round Pelaw Grange Dogs entertained High Flying Pelton Fc,  after an inspection of the pitch referee Peter. Fletcher indicated the game was on. After only a few minutes Eddie Shanks scored a well taken goal for Pelaw Grange Dogs Fc after they Pelton had held them back for the first few minutes but within minutes had levelled the game at 1-1.  After around 30 minutes Pelaw again took the lead but this time via David Donnelly to make it 2-1 however Pelton had a goal mouth scrabble to score to make it 2-2 at the interval. Both sides headed to the Comfort and warmth of the Changing rooms at Half Time, the second half started with  Pelton making a  couple of substitutions and the game swung back and forth with neither side being able to find the net. Then David Elders robbed a Pelton player who seemed to just stop and put a great through ball splitting Peltons defence and leaving Chris Hawkins to take the ball past their keeper. It looked to be all over with 20 minutes to go as David Elders put another through ball  to the forwards and Pelaw went 4-2 to up from a deflected own goal. David Fleming hit the post with a great effort for it to bounce off it for a goal kick and their keeper early on the second half nearly scored from a kick from goal. With 10 minutes left though David Donnelly was alleged to handle the ball in the box and Pelton gratefully tucked the ball away to make it 4-3 to Pelaw Grange Dogs. Although Pelton pressed hard for an equaliser Pelaws defence worked equally as hard to keep the game at 4-3 and were well deserved their win. In the torrential rain both teams played some good football with very few problems for referee Peter Fletcher to deal with who had a very good game.  Chester-le-Street Plough Inn had a home game after being on their travels for the last 8 games. Third division high flyers Washington Usworth Top Club were providing the opposition in the 1st Round of The D & P Trophies Knockout Cup. With not a puddle in sight and a quick inspection from the referee the pitch was deemed as playable The extreme weather conditions were horrendous for both sides and in the early stages of the game both teams seemed to cancel each other out. The home side were a little sloppy in their opening play and gave away possession, however Usworth Top Club failed to any advantage. The away side thought they had grabbed the lead in the 20th minute when they were awarded a free kick 25 yards from goal. The Top Club player curled the free kick round the wall but Plough Inn goalkeeper Jon Witherspoon managed to get a hand to it and tip the ball round the post. This seemed to waken the home side up and now started to play some neat attractive football, with Joel Baddams and John Forster causing problems down the flanks. The Plough Inn had now started to create several chances with Daniel Hill Going Close with a Curled Effort. The Home Side Did Get The Breakthrough In The 37th Minute When Ben Lloyd Picked The Ball Up From 30 Yards Out And Struck A Shot Straight At The Goalkeeper Who Managed To Fumble The Ball Under His Body And Over The Line. This Was A Deserved Lead On The Balance Of Play And The Home Side Now Were Looking To Kick On From Here. Only Moments Later They Did Double Their Lead With Some Neat Play From John Forster On The Right Who Supplied A Wonderful Cross For Joel Baddams To Make No Mistake From Six Yards Out. The Home Side Were Now Enjoying A Great Spell Of Pressure And Took Advantage Of Some Hesitancy In The Usworth Defence To Increase Their Lead Further. Ben Lloyd Was The Creator This Time, Providing A Great Through Ball For Chris Cuthbertson To Get There Before The Goalkeeper And Bundle The Ball Over The Line. This Gave the Plough a 3-0 Half time lead. The second half started very slowly for the home side as Usworth applied a bit of pressure. Now playing with the wind and the rain on their backs, they pushed the home defence back in the early period. The Plough were giving the ball away a little too often early on but soon got their grips on the game. The home side started to get the ball down on the surface and keep the ball moving, stretching Usworth. The killer goal came in the 53rd when John Forster played another superb through ball for Daniel Hill to run onto from his own half giving him a one on one with the goalkeeper and he made no mistakes, slotting the ball past the keeper. Usworth scored a Goal when on of their Forwards picked the ball up from 40 yards out and hit a speculative effort in the air towards goal, which Plough goalkeeper John Witherspoon managed to slightly jump and force the ball down and into the net! With the wind and the rain now getting stronger by the minute The Plough managed to pick themselves up and start again. This proved to be the only blip in the game as the defence stood strong to any encounter from Usworth. The game was all wrapped up in the 75th minute with a fantastic bit of play from top Goals corer Daniel Hill. John Forster was once again involved supplying a good ball down the line, for Hill to turn his man inside out before driving the ball past the away keeper. There was one final glorious chance late on in the game when Daniel Hill broke through and even though he was on his hat-trick unselfishly played in Tony Daglish who could only hit a tame shot straight at the keeper. The poor effort frustrated Daniel Hill as he had a clear sight on goal to complete his hat trick but fair play to him as he put the team first. Final score 5-1 to the Plough. In the same Competition Kelloe Davy Lamp were 5-3 winners at West Rainton.

In all fairness they do have lads who can play decent football and on occasion they did it. The midfield was a battlefield but Steven Talbot excelled with a MOTM performance, grabbing a hat-trick in the first half and adding another in the second. Mark Liddle got a brace and Paul Kindon got one to give the Victoria a 7-1 win. Hetton’s goal came from a penalty after Darren Stanley was penalised for being stamped on by their player and the Hetton player tucked it away in the bottom corner. The second half was a little different with Garden House having a stronger wind and hail at their backs they got much more possession and battled very well to get the scores back level.Witton came back again with a determined effort and got their noses in front once more when Scott Embleton got his second when he scrambled home a ball from close range with 18 minutes remaining. The Cricketers Bowl Out Burnside Wmc

By Groundhopper
In the Only Game in the premier Division to escape the weather Sacriston Cricket Club Travelled to Burnside Wmc.The Cricketers Looking to gain three Points to put them level on top of the Premier Division with Hetton Lyons Cricket Club. The Cricketers won this game with much to spare in the end but we had some very difficult moments in the first half most of which were through their own making. Burnside Wmc Took the Lead on 12 minutes when a ball was played all the way across the box and a Burnside Forward Fired the ball into the net from around 12 yards out. The Cricketers made it 1-1 when an inspired solo goal by Gary Draper, scored from long range with the right foot. It was a first-class effort... the move originally started with some good work from Graham Embleton. Although Burnside had a few good chances to go back in front the Cricketers were starting to control the game, but with 5 mins to go to half time the Cricketers conceded a crazy penalty with. John Robson under pressure tried to play the ball back to Marc Bladen on the line who was forced to then make a last ditch tackle on the Burnside forward and although Bladen got the ball he got some of the man as well and the referee gave the penalty which the Burnside player converted with no problem. The Cricketers went in 2-1 down at half time Robert Draper headed in a Graeme Embleton free kick from around 13 yards out with a brilliant goal. In the 48 min the scores were levelled when a well delivered through-ball from Graham Embleton was converted by Rob Draper. A first-class finish with the head from 18 yards out. This seemed to settle the Cricketers down who we were playing with the wind and down the slope which was proving to be a good advantage as the game wore on. Graeme Embleton put the Cricketers 3-2 ahead on 55 mins when his brilliant right footed shot went in from 25 yards showing great technique to take the shot on with the ball from around knee height which fizzed in via the keeper's right hand who perhaps should have done better. They made the game safe on 81 mins when Gary Draper received the ball from Graeme Embleton deep in the Burnside half and he ran and teased the Burnside defence dancing his way into the box before shooting left footed across the keeper who got a hand to his shot but couldn't keep it out of the bottom corner.  Gary Draper completed his hatrick on 87 mins when White carried the ball out of his right back position and put Gary Draper 1 on 1 with the final Burnside defender and although Gary had the opportunity to take the ball further towards goal he decided to shoot from 25 yards out and the ball flew into the top corner. This made the Final Score 5-2 to Sacriston. , however Sacriston took the 3 points and  now have 24 points from 12 games and go level on points at the top with Hetton Lyons.

In Division One Washington JFC consolidated their position at the table top with a hard fought for 2-1 victory over local rivals Washington Arms. The Arms started well with the lively Craig Smith creating all sorts of problems. However against the run of play at the time a long JFC throw finds its way into the Arms net off Brian Rossell to give JFC the lead on the thirty minute mark. The Arms responded strongly and fully deserve the equaliser five minutes before halt time, Danny Murray scoring from the spot at the third attempt, the previous two being ruled out for encroachment. The second half is not dominated by either side, both teams playing attractive and entertaining football without really troubling the goalkeepers. The match wining goal follows a lack of concentration in the Arms defence, with defenders appealing for a foul Marc Baxter breaks free into the box, his weak effort deceives the keeper and limply rolls into the back of the net.

Houghton Mill All Stars were held to a 1-1 draw at home to Waterhouses. The away side took the lead after thirty minutes when a Brian Gott free kick was parried by Mill keeper Dan Pearson straight to the feet of Brendan Glevin who tapped the ball into the net. In the second half Mill piled relentless pressure onto the Waterhouses goal but despite chance after chance they just couldn't score – David Hall hit the cross bar twice, Andy Adey ran three quarters the way up the field sidestepping opponent after opponent before shooting straight at the keeper, David Jane volleyed wide and Waterhouses keeper Paul Bellamy saved a point blank header from Gary Adey. Mill's equaliser eventually came on eighty minutes when a Philip Thompson cross was headed towards goal by Steve Fenn, the keeper saved it but the ball fell nicely for Nick Thompson to blast into the net.Birtley Board Inn were 4-1 winners at Lumley Fc. James Laidler scoring for Lumley Fc.

In the Second Division the Big Chester le Street Derby saw Chester Osborne playing host to Chester Plough at Rickleton .The Game started with Both sides pushing for an early goal, within 5 minutes the Osborne were one up through Lloyd McGee, The Plough hit back almost immediately when Paul Haggan turned in a cross into his own goal making it one all. The Osborne replied with a lush 18 yard volley over the ploughs keeper only for the plough to reply 5 minutes later to make it two each. Then the turning point of the match occurred when Anthony Daglish the Plough Defender saved a shot from Chris Bennett on the line and was sent off by the Referee leaving the Plough with only ten men on the pitch. Chris Winn made no mistake and scored from the spot. With some good saves from Man of the match Peter Roddham in the Osborne Goal and another two goals from Chris Winn to complete his hatrick The Osborne won deservedly 5-2 to a fighting 10 men Plough. Pelton Fc were 3-1 winners at Pittington Fc, Sedgefield Black Lion were 2-1 home winners over Washington Lambton Village .

In the Third Division Washington Victoria entertained the Divisions bottom club Framwellgate Moor Salutation in a very one sided game were the Salutation had one shot on goal Credit goes to the Salutation goalkeeper who pulled of some excellent saves. Sedgefield Net Park entertained Hamsteels Inn After a fairly wet weekend it was conceivable that the game could be off with a waterlogged pitch but the wind must of helped the drainage as the pitch was in very good condition. The game got underway and the opening 5 minutes were fairly scrappy and close but Net Park started to get hold of the game with Joe Burke and Kev Broom really commanding the midfield for the Home side. Stephen Turland broke down the left hand side he turned the Hamsteels defender inside out before calmly slotting his finish round the Hamsteels keeper into the bottom corner of the net as his goal scoring form continues to impress. As Net Park settled into their stride they created more chances at goal the ball was played into the box by Kev Broom, Mally Dickenson latched onto it to finish well making it 2-0 to Net Park . In the Leagues Fourth Division Chester Easy Travelled to the Fourth Division league leaders Neville Cross at Framwellgate Moor following Cup Ties it was there first league game for five weeks, Easy showed that they are very much concentrated on winning the Fourth Division as they smashed five past Neville’s Cross with Anthony Davison and Craig Mickle amongst the scorers again. The first half was a very scrappy affair with both teams struggling to find any sort of attacking momentum. Neville’s Cross did have the first chances of the game with lapses in concentration from the Easy Street defence allowing the Neville’s Cross forwards to get in one-on-one with James Davidson twice in succession but the Easy Street keeper pulled off two class saves to keep his team in the game. Towards the end of the half Easy threatened the Neville’s Cross goal with Davison's lobbed effort saved by the keeper and Glen Taylor’s goal bound effort cleared off the line. Half time couldn't come soon enough for Easy Street; they were soon in front in the second half with Craig Evans scoring his second of the season with a scrappy effort. Glen Taylor then doubled the lead with an identical effort from the first half but the cultured midfielder didn't make the same mistake twice, finding the net with an expert finish. Craig Mickle then turned on the style going past two players and unselfishly pulling the ball across for Anthony Davison to tap in. It was four almost straight from the start as David Hope smashed an unstoppable strike into the net from 25 yards for his second goal in successive games. Craig Mickle added Easy Streets Fifth on Full Time. To Give Easy Street a 5-0 win. In the Alan Smith Memorial Trophy 3rd Round Sponsored by Castle Insurance Pelton Roab produced their best performance of the Season as they entertained last Seasons Premier League Champions Kelloe Wmc the Referee handled the game very well and deserves a mention. In a Very Tight Game Kelloe Wmc Took the Lead on 16 Mins , Pelton Continued to battle on and there patience paid of in the 58 min Ryan Drummand latched on to a Through ball from Michael Graver and Drummand Lobbed the Kelloe Keeper. On67 min the
Referee blew for a foul in the box, and Michael Graver slotted home the Free Kick with a fine left footed finish. Pelton sealed the Game in the 75 min - Ryan Drummand scored His second of the Game to Give Pelton a 3-1 Home win. Newton Aycliffe wmc also progressed to next round winning 5-2 at Home to Chester Osborne Wmc

In the JD Taxis Trophy Lumley Crashed to a 3-1 away Defeat to Fourth Division Club Framwellgate Moor Wmc .Sedgefield Black Lion were 5-2 Home winners Over Shadforth Plough Inn. East Rainton Travellers Rest entertained   Sedgefield NETPark Sedgefield Net Park a much depleated squad due To Injuries the squad comprising mainly of defenders the lads arrived at Rainton for what would be one of their hardest games of the season so far. A much changed East Rainton side warmed up for a full 30mins before the game and looked a far more organised outfit than in previous seasons. Netpark won toss and immediately took control with particularly good link up play down the right hand side involving Burke, Dickenson, Bagshaw and Turland. Several excellent chances went begging before Sedgefield were awarded a somewhat dubious penalty for what looked like an excellent tackle. Dickenson put the penalty away and soon after Joe Burke joined the season’s goals corers by slotting home the 2nd from a Sheppherdson pull back. Sedgefield continued to press forward much to the frustration of the EastRainton .

Then following a Great move from Sedgefield which involved virtually every player in the team passing and moving sweetly, Turland struck the post. Tommy Hotchkiss quickly got the ball forward and a low cross was hit into the Net park box, bizarrely and very unexpectedly the referee blew his whistle and pointed to the spot, claiming the ball had struck the arm of the Chris Lines. The penalty was dispatched and within minutes a more decisive East Rainton carved out another good chance. Rob Earnshaw was somehow out jumped and the on East Rainton centre forward rounded the Net park Keeper  and stroked the ball towards an empty net only to see it cleared by the a Net park Defender . The Second half saw East Rainton have the better of the play and missed a couple of really good chances. Then enter the battle of the Goalkeepers as Tommy Hotchkiss the East Raintom Keeper made a fabulous save from Joe Burke’s header. Not to be undone though Darren Bill made 3 or 4 wonderful saves one of them I can’t believe he saved it a firm shot from close range looked to be flying in but Billy flung himself and somehow tipped it over the bar. It was a fairly close affair but minutes from the end Mally Dickenson latched onto a cross which fell to the edge of the box and he thrashed a half volley low beating the keeper as the defender tried to clear could only help it on into the roof of the net. Net Park held out for the remaining 5 minutes with the Final score East Rainton  2-3 Net Park this Puts Net Park into the quarter finals of the cup.

In the First Round of the Deerness Driveways Trophy Chester Easy Street chalked up another cup win as they demolished visitors and fellow Fourth division side Quarrington Hill.wmc 7-2 with several key players missing due to other commitments, Easy Street only had 12 fit players available.

Easy Street started off in abysmal fashion and were lucky they weren't playing a stronger team otherwise they would have been behind early on. They did however take an undeserved lead when Anthony Davison’s back heel found Steven Marriott and his sliced shot beat the keeper via the post.

It was Marriott’s first competitive goal for over 6 years and it was only start for Easy Street.

They doubled their lead soon after when another fancy back heel from Davison released Craig Mickle who coolly slotted the ball past the goalkeeper. Quarry Hill provided an immediate response with the number 9 slipping past David Cowan and curling a left foot effort towards the Easy Street goal. Fortunately keeper James Davidson was on hand to tip the ball wide at full stretch.

With Quarry Hill getting back into the game, Easy Street went in search of the game killing goal and it was David Hope who put them 3-0. Some great play by top scorer Mickle, saw him beat two players and slip the ball into Hope who then smashed the ball past the goalkeeper from the angle.

It was 4-0 soon after with Mickles stinging left footed free kick, too hot to handle, with the keeper palming the ball in the path of Mark Peck who bundled the ball over the line. Davison then got himself on the score sheet as Cowan’s ball allowed the winger plenty of time to bear down on goal and measure his finish to make it 5-0 before half time. Half time came and Easy Street were firmly on top but not playing to their usual standard and definitely needed to get out of second gear.

Chris Cairns was replaced by Stephen Wood with Mark Peck moving to left back and it was Peck who swung the ball into the box for Davison who bundled home his second and Easy Streets 6th of the match. But some defensive blunders allowed Quarry Hill to regain some pride as they got a goal back. A ball in from the right was misjudged by Marriott who let the ball run under his feet and the Quarry Hill number 9 tapped in. But Easy Street did manage to make it seven with 15 minutes to go. Corletts run up the right saw him receive the ball from Glen Taylor and his pull back created space for Mickle to turn the defender and curl an unstoppable shot into the bottom left corner for his second goal.

But it was Quarry Hill who had the last laugh on proceedings as they struck their second with a few minutes left on the clock. Poor play by Cowan allowed the Quarry Hill number 9 to float a cross in towards the advancing number 12 and he headed the ball into an empty net. In the same Competition Chilton Wmc were 6-4 winners at Sherburn Lambton Arms.

In the Premier Division Sacriston Cricket Club Suffered Their first league defeat since the 23rd August and although it is bitterly disappointing to lose we were not disgraced by any means and at times we played well again in this game as they entertained Brandon Bay Horse at Sacriston. The Cricketers started the game well and in the first 5 minutes caused the Brandon defence problems but goal chances were few and far between. In the 5 mins the Bay Horse scored with there first attack when Barry Johnson lost John Robson from a throw in and put a wicked cross into the box where Michael Fort headed home giving Hall the Home Keeper no chance. The Cricketers continued to pressured the ball all game and although Brandon did have other chances in the half the best of which when Hall tipped a shot onto the post, the Cricketers had their fare share of the Game, But they just couldn't get the goal wasting numerous good positions in and around the box and making the wrong choice in the final third where it matters. At times we had Brandon hemmed in their own half but the difference between the 2 teams were the two Bay Horse forwards,  Barry Johnson and  Dave Fort both caused the Cricketers Defence  problems all day long .. Johnson and Fort were able to hang onto the ball and create problems for the Cricketers Defence.  The killer 2nd goal for the Bay Horse came from a corner when Andy Robson headed home at the near post on 52 mins rising above the Cricketers defenders. However the Cricketers were still kept searching for a way to get back into the game and we won countless free kicks in the game none of which we really made the most of but Graeme Embleton did manage to hit the cross bar from one on the hour mark and they had one other glorious chance to score when Fenton had a free header from a Graeme Embleton free kick at the back post only to miss the target with a tame header. To make the Final Score Sacriston Cricket Club 0 Brandon Bay Horse 2.Langley Park Wmc and Visitors Burnside Wmc Shared the Points in a 3-3 Draw. Houghton Glendale were 2-1 Home winners Over Ferryhill Wmc.

In the First Division  Washington  JFC entertained Sacriston wmc, Sacriston  took the lead after Jfc had missed several good chances, The  right winger received the ball from a throw in and went around the full back and chipped the keeper from an acute angle, a cracking goal. JFC made it 1-1 from the penalty spot after a forward was brought down just as he was about to pull the trigger from 6 yds, Keith Vincent tucked the ball into the corner, game on, JFC went 2-1 up when a lovely through ball good enough to split the Sacriston Defence found Craig Rousell he slid the ball under the approaching keeper. Sacriston seemed to loose heart after this and the home team scored 3 more through John Middlemiss, Peter Taylor and a second for Rousell sealed the result. Chester Hilda Park Travelled to Washington Biddick Inn  Both asides Looking for Promotion , the Hilda Park Bandwagon again came of the Rails Callum Turnbull getting their Only Goal as they Crashed to a 5-1 defeat. The Local Derby at Esh Winning between the Cricket Club and Water houses was called off Due to a Waterlogged Pitch.
In the Second Division Chester Plough Inn found themselves on their travels, this time Coxhoe WMC providing the opposition in a league encounter. The Plough Inn will need directions to our home ground as this was our 7th away game in a row. Chester Plough started very brightly and managed to grab the lead as early as the 3rd minute when Daniel Hill broke down the right flank and drove a superb ball across the 6 yard box for BEN LLOYD to bundle the ball past the keeper. The Plough were hoping to build on the lead but unfortunately it was Coxhoe who came back the stronger of the two teams. The lead only lasted 5 minutes, when goalkeeper John Witherspoon made a brilliant save only to watch the away defenders clear the ball as far as the edge of the area straight to the Coxhoe forward who lobbed the ball straight over the Keepers head from 20 yards. Coxhoe’s confidence was now growing and continued to push The Plough back in their own half and got their rewards in the 15th minute. The Plough defence were caught napping when half of the players pushed out and the other half stayed in playing the Coxhoe striker onside who squared the ball across the six yard area for their Michael Owen to finish comfortably. Coxhoe were now well in control and for the next twenty minutes had all the possession and created several good opportunities to increase their lead but thankfully didn’t take them. The Plough did have a spell in the last 5 minutes of the half and could easily have grabbed an equaliser, with Ben Lloyd forcing the keeper into a great save and Joel Baddams seeing his shot hit the post. Half Time 2-1 to CoxhoeThe Second Half the Plough driven on by inspirational skipper Lee McGuiness were now starting grow in confidence and belief. They grabbed a deserved equaliser in the 55th minute and it came from an unlikely source. John Forster took the corner, and LEE McGuiness headed the ball goal bound only to see his effort blocked, however he was the first to react as it hit the ground and smashed the ball into the net from a good 7 yards out! The Plough had the bit between the teeth now and managed to take the lead only 5 minutes later when DANIEL HILL capitalised on some sloppy defending. The Coxhoe centre half misplaced his clearance that fell straight to Daniel Hill who took a couple of touches before firing past the stranded keeper from 25 yards out. After the goal, it was backs against the wall time for the Plough as Coxhoe pressed in search of an equaliser and created some golden opportunities only to find goalkeeper Jon Witherspoon in sparkling form. The Plough defence stayed strong and put in some brilliant blocks to keep the lead. The Plough were now trying to see the game out but actually put the game beyond doubt in the 86th minute. Coxhoe had gone with 3 at the back and found themselves stretched when Wilcock brought the ball out of defence and passed to John Forster who hit a super ball down the line for livewire Hill to skip past his man before squaring to KEITH LINES who made no mistake from 6 yards out. The Final Score Coxhoe wmc 2 -4 Chester Plough Inn . Pelton Fc‘s Home game against Durham Bede Lodge was cancelled due to a Waterlogged Pitch.Ushaw Moor Cricket Club were 4-1 Home winners Over Pittington Fc.

Mickle On the Ball Again

By Groundhopper.

In the Durham County Football Association Sunday Cup In form Side Chester Easystreet Travelled to Teeside to Play Stockton Sunday League Side Billingham Telstar. Easy Street made it to the last 32 of the County Cup with a 2-0 win over Stockton Premier League side Billingham Telstar. It was a dreadful first half from EasyStreet as they struggled to impose themselves on the game and were lucky not to be behind but the Telstar finishing was lacking in any real quality. Easy Street did however have some chances with Craig Mickle and Anthony Davison putting a few wide of the posts but never really testing the Telstar keeper. Mark Peck had the best chance of the first half when his shot was blocked by a Telstar defender and with the goal gaping his second shot was miraculously saved by the goalkeeper. Some half time words from Easystreet manager Michael Dalkin seemed to invigorate the players and they upped the tempo of the game and started to gather momentum. With most of the play coming down the left Davison gave the Telstar right back a torrid time with his pace and close control.

His partner, Mickle should have put Easy Street ahead early in the second half but, after beating three players, his shot is saved by the keeper and as the ball fell at his feet again his goal bound shot was pounced upon by the keeper again who remarkably managed to turn it over the bar. The goal for Easystreet did come with about 20 minutes to go. Good work again by Davison down the left saw him beat three players and square to Mickle who lifted his shot beyond the keeper and into the net. Telstar piled on the pressure from then on as they went in search of the equaliser that would take it to extra-time. Their best effort fell to their number 8 Jones. His fine 20 yard strike brought the best out of James Davidson who got a strong arm to the ball to tip it over. With Telstar piling forward, they were susceptible on the break and Mickle managed to exploit the large gaps in defence as he repaid the assist from Davision earlier as he slipped the ball into him on the left and the winger composed himself before sweeping a low shot into the far right corner of the net. This Put Easy Street Into the last 32 Of the Compeition.Pelton Roab Entertained Sunderland Sunday League Side Sunderland Myers. Ten minutes into the second half Gilegate keeper James Winter pulled off a fantastic save to deny a superb Gary Adey volley. Washington Colliery Travelle to Durham to Play the Garden House. After an impeccable minutes silence respected by both teams on Rememberance Sunday, the game got underway and the first half was played out in very wet Conditions . This was no excuse though as it was, as always, the same for both teams, and, after a series of off-side decisions against the Colliery, lead upto a frantic goalmouth scramble which saw Garden House take the lead just minutes before half-time, the ball was half-cleared only to be lumped back into the box, for their un-marked attacker to tap in at the back post Half Time 1-0 to the Garden House,In the second Half  in typical Colliery fashion they let yet another soft goal put us 2-0 behind. This finally sparked the Colliery into life. Soon after making a change which saw the Colliery Bring On Mickey Walker  to replace Craig Neal, who picked up a knock to his long standing leg injury,on  65 min the Colliery Pulled a Goal Back when Mark Wallis supplied the corner, and Andy Mcintire found the net from just inside the box with a right footed effort.  The Torrential Downpour of Rainon Sunday Put paid to a Lot Of Fixtures in the League , Waterlogged Pitches were the Order of the Day, The Games At Ferryhill Wmc , Fatfield Biddick Inn ,Washington  Jfc , Pittington  Fc, Hamsteels Inn  , Washington Usworth Top Club  ,Langley Park  Rams Head And Oxclose  Ox And Plough Were Off Due To Bad Weather. In the Third Round Of the Alan Smith Memorial Trophy Chester Easy Street from the Leagues 4th Division entertained  Burnmoor Cricket Club from the Premier Division. With the rain lashing down and the condition of the pitch sure to get worse, Chester Easystreet kicked off the game against their Premier League opponents. It was Easy Street who definitely had the best of the first half but really did lack that killer touch in front of goal with Paul Corlett, Stephen Wood, Davison and Craig Mickle unable to beat the Burnmoor keeper with their efforts. A stroke of luck was needed for Easy street’s first goal as Craig Mickles shot took a wicked deflection off the Burnmoor defender and spun into the bottom right corner Just before Half time. With the conditions easing up Easy Street continued to build in the second half and doubled their lead not long after the restart. Woods cross from the left was pinpoint as Mark Peck stole in at the near post to poke the ball home. Anthony Davison then added a Further Goal for Easy Street by unleashing an unstoppable drive from the left, with the ball flying across the keeper and into the top right hand corner. With victory almost a certainty, Easy Street took their foot off the gas and allowed Burnmoor the chance to get back into the game. But their hopes were dashed when Paul  Corlett swivelled to lash the ball home with his right foot from the edge of the box.  To make it a Fine 4-0 home win for the 4th Division Outfit.

In the Same  Trophy 3rd Round premier division club Sedgefield St Edmunds travelled to first division Washington Arms and were made to work really hard to earn a 1-2 victory with the winner coming late in the period of extra time. In atrocious conditions both teams and referee Keith Hunter are to be congratulated on putting in a fine performance that epitomised all that is good about Sunday League football. The game started well for the Washington Arms who despite having the best of the play go into the half time break a goal down, a powerful Edward Johnson header doing the damage. Danny Murray guides a near post Craig Smith cross into the net to bring the Arms level on the sixty minute mark. In an intriguing battle with both teams searching for a winner in normal time chances are squandered at both ends, Sedgefield believe they have scored the winner from a corner on the stroke of full time however referee Hunter had blown for full time before the ball had been scrambled into the Arms goal. In extra time both teams work really hard to gain the advantage and just when it looks like the game is going into a penalty shoot out John Cooks grabs the all important winner for Sedgfield St Edmunds.

Ferryhill hit back 10 minutes later when their striker gained a fortuitous rebound from the advancing Potts to easily score and then went in front with a fierce drive from 22 yards following a long ball over the top of the Witton defence. That remained the score at half time but 10 minutes into the second half with Cleckner introduced at the back releasing Scott Embleton up front things started to change and Witton began to dominate the game. The equaliser quickly followed from Embleton with a neat finish from just inside the box and after 63 minutes they were in front with a near post header from the impressive Peter Maughan.Witton added a fourth to cement their superiority through Ian Renwick after good work from Sanderson and Embleton and Scott Embleton rounded off a good personal performance with his 2nd and Witton’s 5th to seal an impressive win. The second half came and Easy Street took a surprise lead early on. Some good work by influential midfielder Allen Robson set up Mickle who laid the ball into the path of David Cowan who smashed the ball home. But Easy Street couldn't build on that and lost the lead soon after with the Washington midfielder poke the ball home. Then some weak defending down the left allowed Washington to go further ahead.  Easy street made a Double Substitution with Glen Taylor and Jak Penny replaced by David Hope and Paul Corlett but the change to 3-5-2 didn't pay dividends with Easy Street losing shape and cover on the right hand side of defence with Chris Greener and David Tyson again getting caught by the Washington who added a Further Goal. Some poor defensive work again cost Easy Street dear as Hylton scored a third on the break although their lead was very undeserved. Another ray of light came just before half time when David Cowan, who had missed two good chances earlier on, made it third time lucky as he coolly slotted the ball past the Hylton goalkeeper after a delicate ball was slipped through by Mickle. The half time whistle blew and Easy knew that goal had given them the ascendancy and Manager Dalkins half time words payed instant dividends as Easy drew level 13 seconds after the kick-off. Mickle beat three players before playing a neat one-two with Damien Baston and slotting the ball underneath the goalkeeper. The tall striker who has bagged 22 goals this season was causing all sorts of problems for the Hylton defence with his pace. It was his shot that led to the corner in which Baston scored directly from. Some misjudgement from the Hylton goalkeeper meant the ball sailed into the far right hand corner and gave Easy a 4-3 lead. Glen Taylor then had a header ruled out for offside before Tyson popped up the powerfully head home another Baston corner at the near post. Bastons corners were causing all sorts of problems and Tyson was on the score sheet again as another corner from the left was headed down by the sub Evans and Tyson poked home at the near post. In the Fourth Division the Big derby game of the day saw two new Teams to the League Chester le Street Easy Street entertain Chester Le Street Leonard’s. Easy Street battled to victory against a spirited Chester Leonard’s side. Manager Michael Dalkin made two changes to the side with Craig Evans and Chris Cairns coming into the side in place of Liam Wears and Davey Cowan. Looking to build on last weeks win, Easy Street went into the game still top of the table after their point’s deduction. But they didn't show their title winning credentials in the first half and despite taking the lead through Craig Mickle, the table toppers huffed and puffed in midfield as they were at times out fought and out classed by the Leonard’s. Half time couldn't come quick enough and Dalkins half time words seemed to have the desired effect as Easy Street dominated the second half with as impressive display of team passing, especially down the right side with Jak Penny, Damien Baston, David Hope and Mickle himself finding themselves with time on the ball, something that was a real premium in the first half.
But Easy street continued to create chances and the second goal came when Baston lobbed a pinpoint ball over to Allen Robson who controlled and lashed the ball home to break the Leonard’s Resistance.
There was still time for the visitors to get back into the game and almost snatched a consolation after a scramble in the penalty area. But as the referee blew the half time whistle it was another win for Easy Street as they continued their unbeaten start to the season. Washington Colliery Travelled to Langley Park to Play the Rams Head A very, very disappointing result for the Colliery as they crashed to a 7-1 Defeat this against a team who the Colliery drew with only a few weeks ago Considering the game was level at 0-0 at half-time, and the Colliery having what was felt the "better" first half of the two teams, ended up, somehow, comfortably beaten. Collieries Consolation goal came in 55 Min Mark Wallis fired home from 18 yards out with a well-finished right foot goal, following a through-ball from Chris Grier.

Last Seasons League Champions Kelloe Wmc entertained Darlington Haughton WMC in the county cup and started brightly when a swift counter attack was finished by striker Colin Young.  Kelloe continued to dominate possession without creating many chances and were punished when the visitors snatched a goal back before half time.  In the second half, Kelloe pressed for a goal and went ahead when winger Stuart Thompson robbed the ball and shot from 20 yards.  Colin Young soon rounded the keeper for a third and then Kelloe picked up the pace ending up 8 1 winners with goals from Chris Smith, Keiran Megran and substitutes Gavin Barton(2) and Adam Strong.Washington Arms Travelled to Whickham for this County Cup Fixture, they made progress in the with a hard earned win at Whickham U21's, Chris Morrison scoring the only goal of the game, earlier the Arms missed a penalty after Man of the Match Chris Morrison had been hauled down in the box, Craig Smith blasting the resultant spot kick wide of the Keeper, hitting the post.Pelaw Grange Dogs were no so lucky as they travelled to Trimdon

In the first half Pelaws central defenders looked fragile and when Stephen Venus Came on at half time in the centre of the back four they looked a lot more settled but the second half  did not create the chances that were available in the first half. Chester Easy Street Fc progressed to the next round of the County Cup needing extra Time to win 7-2 at Burnhopefield  Celtic Fc, thanks largely to a never say die attitude and a wonder goal with the last kick of the game from David Hope. With time running out and Easy Street trailing 2-1 Hope received the ball from Corlett on the left hand side of the penalty area and with no other thought in his mind managed to guide to ball expertly into the top right hand corner of the goal.Burnopfield deservedly lead at the break by 2 goals to nil through 2 set pieces. The first came from the spot and the 2nd was from a free kick just outside the area. With Easy Street reeling from the score line at half time the team rallied together and put in a 2nd half and extra time performance to be proud of. Some fine inter play between Nick Thompson and Gary Adey set up Steve Fenn to curl his shot around keeper David Hartley for Mill to lead 2-1 at the break. But after Mill's good first half performance they completely folded in the second.  A poor clearance by centre back James Cattell fell easily for Nathan Burnett for 2-2, Alistair Dodds then headed into his own goal beforeAdam Williamson scored number four to secure all three points for Hilda. League News - Sunday 6th and 13th September 2009

Houghton Mill All Stars crashed out of the County Cup with a 7-0 defeat to a very good Sunderland Hastings Athletic team from the Premier Division of the Sunderland Sunday Morning League. Steelers FC earned a 4-4 draw against Chester Osbourne with a last minute equaliser from Iain Race.  Stephen Clifford had given the home side the lead and younger brother Jamie Clifford put the Steelers 2-1 up with Kieron Moralee grabbing the third to level the scores at 3-3.
Washington  JFC entertained Gilesgate Moor Hotel  in a 1st Div league game, the first half belonged to the home team and they deserved the lead when Gilesgate`s Keeper James Winter parried a left wing cross by Middlemiss into the path of Andy Taylor who made sure by sidefooting the ball into the middle of the goal. The second half was a different game with Gilesgate putting Wash JFC under exstreme pressure especially in the last 30 mins, David ``The Cat`` Smith saved the home side on several occasions and dislocated his thumb in the process, Gilesgates forwards got through half a dozen times only to either miss the goal or have there shots stopped by the home sides keeper, a very close game overall just edged by the home side by the odd goal.

In the second round of the Spennymoor Town Fc League Cup premier division Pelton RAOB have to work really hard to overcome first division Washington Arms. In an enthralling encounter Pelton take the lead after twenty minutes through Craig Marron with the first of a well taken hat-trick. Washington respond well and just before the half time break equalise with a Chris Morrison strike from the edge of the box. After the interval the Arms start the stronger and take the lead with a Craig Smith corner kick that goes straight in at the near post. Shortly after Pelton are back on level terms, a David Surrey spot kick doing the damage. Pelton whistlt pushing forward for a winner are caught  out with a fine breakaway goal from Chris Morrison. The Arms have Pelton rattled for a while but squander two good opportunities to extend their lead which proves costly. With only a minute of normal time remaining Craig Marron crashes home a Pelton equaliser to take the game into extra time. The extra period sees both sides missing chances before the tie is settled with a well struck third goal for Craig Marron. This League Cup 1st Round tie was a real see saw encounter.
The first 20 minutes were fought out in midfield and was fairly even with neither keeper unduly troubled, there was little evidence of what was to follow.Low Fell took the lead in the 28th minute when their forward broke through a somewhat weak challenge on the edge of the box and fired past the keeper who had no chance.

Witton drew level when Scott Embleton seized on a bad pass and raced clear to cleverly lob the advancing keeper.Soon afterwards Witton were in front when the impressive Ben Sanderson, returning after missing the last 3 weeks, converted a neat cross at the far post. The second half saw Witton seemingly gaining some control and it was no surprise when Embleton grabbed his 2nd and Witton’s 3rd with a great left foot drive into the top corner.Low Fell to their credit came back but were a little fortunate to grab a 2nd goal from what seemed an offside position.Witton then seemed to take total control when first Barrie Allport and then Sanderson again put them 5-2 in front.Witton then seemed to think that the job was done and invited Low Fell onto them, the Fell grabbed 2 late goals which left Witton hanging on at the end for a 5-4 win.

In the second round of the Castle Insurance Alan Smith Memorial Trophy Burnmoor CC had a comfortable 8-0 win away at Houghton Mill All Stars. The visitors were six up at the break with goals from Andrew Hall (2),Paul Taylor, John Caris, James Pounder and Michael Wright. Mill's onlyeffort was a great run at goal from Nick Thompson whose effort was cleared off the goal line. Burnmoor substitutes Luke Charlesworth and Tom Spurling both scored in the second half to heap further misery onto the All Stars and to put Burnmoor into the next round.

Kelloe WMC FC travelled to Pelaw Grange Dogs in the Castle Insurance  Alan Smith Memorial cup and were soon ahead to a great finish from Kieran Megran.  The visitors were were quickly 2-0 up inside 20 mins when John Jury struck from the edge of the box.  With their first attack of the game, Pelaw scored from the edge of the box with a deflected strike after Kelloe struggled to clear their lines.  Stuart Thompson then turned sharply to finish from outside the box to make the score 3-1 at half time.  The second half was again dominated by Kelloe as their fitness showed as Colin Young and Stuart Thompson again added to the score with the game finishing 5-1 to the visitors.

Biddick's first three goals were gifted to them by the Mill's defence -a miskicked clearance from Mill's Alistair Dodd’s fell nicely for Lee Baxter to easily tap home, then Nick Thompson headed a left wing cross
into his own net and for the third goal Mill keeper Steven Ashman spilled the ball at the feet of Baxter for another easy tap in. Kris Young added a fourth before the half time interval. Mill's line up included three over 40's players in Chris Lindsay, Mitch Thompson and Paul Brennan and it was Brennan who notched a couple of goals in Mill's second half fight back. Also in the First Division a fine solid Lumley team performance ended in a 3-0 victory over visitors Gilesgate Moor Hotel. The deadlock was broken early in the 2nd half when Paul Howe pounced to score from close range. Howe doubled Lumley's lead when "the fox in the box" bundled the ball into the net from close range. Man of the Match James Laidler completed the scoring.
Washington  Jfc from the 1st Div entertained visitors Esh Winning cricket Club in a league game, the game was close until Taylor scored a brilliant goal from 20 yds the ball crashing into the top right hand corner of the net, after the break Wash JFC went 2 up when McAdam sprinted through the defence and slid the ball under the encroaching goalkeeper, the game was finished off when McAdam got through again and slammed the ball into the corner of the goal, Wash JFC made it 4 nil when sub Hill just got to the ball before the keeper, went round him and passed the ball into the goal.  Esh Winning had plenty chances themselves but goalkeeper Smith ``the cat`` made four incredible saves in the course of the game.Birtley Board Inn and Visitors Washington Arms shared the Points in a 3-3 Draw. The Plough Inn kicked off the game and got the perfect start when we took the lead as early as the 2nd minute. The ball was played down the right channel for Daniel Hill to chase; he then beat two defenders before pulling the ball back to JOEL BADDAMS who made no mistake from 10 yards. Unfortunately as soon as we took the lead we seemed to take our foot off the gas and Sedgefield soon started to press us back. The away side managed to grab an equaliser in the 11th minute when Keith Lines gave the ball away in the middle of the park, the Sedgefield midfielder took advantage of the mistake, running on to the ball before beating three players then slotting the ball past Witherspoon. Credit to the Sedgefield player for a brilliant solo effort. The away side then extended their lead only 3 minutes later when a long ball over the top caught us out, the team appealed for offside but nothing given and the centre forward made no mistake placing the ball in the corner of the net. The away side continued to have a lot of the possession, passing the ball around the middle of the park but didn’t really provide any threat to the home goal. The home side did have a few chances themselves, Jamie Seymour had a fine effort which struck the cross bar and Daniel Hill also had a one on one which he would normally score but unfortunately put it agonisingly wide. The Plough Inn were then dealt a killer blow in the 40th minute when Sedgefield were awarded a free kick just inside our half. The ball was floated in the area which was knocked down for the striker to fire home from ten yards whilst we all stood watching. H/T 1-3 Joel Baddams had a great chance to get us back into the game when the two goal hero was put clear by Michael Dawson but unfortunately shot straight at the away goalkeeper. The game was then put beyond The Plough Inns reach when Sedgefield scored again. The Plough did manage to pull a goal back only five minutes later when Jamie Seymour broke down the right and crossed for JOEL BADDAMS to finish superbly from 15 yards. The remainder of the game The Plough continued to enjoy plenty of possession but didn’t really create many chances as our final ball into the area was pretty poor. Joel Baddams had a header which hit the bar late on but other than that the away side dealt with any threats. F/T 2-4

In the Third Division Sedgefield Net Park made the Long Journey to Pelaw to play the Grange Dogs.Pelaw Grange Dogs FC 5 Sedgefield Net Park Fc 3This was a really entertaining match considering Pelaw Grange Dogs Fc only had 11 players due to 7 others been out injured or away. The match started briskly with Sedgefield having the first attack on goal but within minutes found themselves 1 nil down from a goal from Pelaw grange Dogs David Fleming who having only touched the ball twice and playing his first ever 11 aside game had put the ball passed the Sedgefield keeper. Mark Stevenson then scored a neat goal before Eddy Quinn of the Pelaw Grange Dogs score a real screamer from about 35 meters. Sedgefield then pulled one back and this was all in the first 20 minutes. The game then settled down with some good play by both sides. Sedgefield then pulled another one back from a free kick but after the interval Pelaw Grange Dogs first made it 4-2 with another goal from Mark Stevenson and then another from Eddy Quinn before Sedgefield pulled one back from the penalty spot to make it 5-3 to Pelaw Grange Dogs FC. Pelaws goalkeeper Tony Johnson was in the wars a couple of times and had to receive some treatment after a goalmouth skirmish but Pelaw well deserved the victory. Next week Pelaw entertain free scoring Hartlepool Corporation Welfare FC in the County Cup . Pelaw Grange Dogs FC 5 Sedgefield Net park Fc 3. Hamsteels Inn were 3-0 winners at East Rainton Travellers Rest and Chilton Lodge were 4-1 Home winners Over Low Fell Gold Medal.
In the Fourth Division Chester Easy Street dropped their first points of the season in a tame 1-1 draw at New Durham wmc . Despite dominating possession for the majority of the game, chances were few and far between. New Durham found themselves 1-0 up midway through the 1st half courtesy of a mix-up between defender and goalkeeper allowing the opposition striker to poke the ball home. Easy Street tried to respond but the closest they came was to rattle the bar from a free kick from Craig Mickle. Craig Evans levelled the score line with a close range header from a corner and despite a late penalty appeal, neither team were able to find the winning goal. Chester Leonard’s Travelled to Quarrington Hill Wmc Another mediocre performance by the Leonard’s resulting in a 5 - 2 defeat. Alarm bells are ringing at Chester Leonard’s with manager Peter Newell threatening wholesale changes for the next game. Competitive midfield action was overshadowed by shocking defending and a lack of any meaningful attacking play. The return of missing players needs to result in significantly improved organisation and a return to basics. The manager is definitely looking for a win in the next fixture. The first Chester Leonard’s goal was scored from Zak Scott. A free kick was awarded on the left hand side of the 18 yard box and Scott stepped up to curl an audacious right footed effort past the 'keeper. Scott was involved in the second Leonard's goal too as a short corner was played to new signing Kevin Crawley. He took a touch before driving it into the back of the net via a deflection. Kelloe Davy Lamp were 5-3 winners at Durham Garden House, Ferryhill White Horse and visitors Framwellgate Moor Wmc shared the Points in a 3-3 Draw.

League News

In the Preliminary round of the JD Taxis Guards Cup Cup holders Houghton Mill All Stars are through to the next round of the but only after a tough encounter with Nevilles Cross Social FC.Nevilles Cross took an early lead but Mill soon hit back with a Steve Fenn penalty, a James Cattell header and a Gary Adey shot to lead 3-1 at the interval.

After fifty five minutes Mill were reduced to ten men when Andy Adey was adjudged to be 'last man' after a foul on the edge of the penalty area and was subsequently red carded. A drab second half sprung into life in the last ten minutes. A superb goal from Mill's Steve Fenn started when he collected the ball wide on the left wing, he then rounded three players before blasting the ball into the roof of the net.

Nevilles Cross scored a consolation goal in the dying moments, the game ending in a 4-2 Mill win.Pelaw Grange Dogs entertained Gilesgate Moor Hotel Fc after having played them last week away. Although the score was the same this was a very different game. Gilesgate had made 6 or 7 changes from the previous week and swept into a 2 goal lead within 10 minutes but after 22 minutes a long shot by Eddy Quinn for Pelaw Grange Dogs crept into the right hand corner to make it 1-2 at half time. This was however after Gilesgate had hit the bar and post on two occasions. Shortly into the second half Pelaw Grange Dogs FC Andy Smiles had to come off injured and was replaced by David Elders who went into the left back position and Phil Hawkins moving into the centre. His brother Chris was then replaced by Anthony Nicholson which was a straight replacement.

After about a further 10 minutes Neil Worley for Pelaw was replaced by Luke Shalgosky but his first move cost Pelaw their full back David Elders as Lukes mistimed lunged tackle took his own full back down and out of the game with a badly bruised Shin and hip and left Pelaw with 10 men. Gilesgate then went 3-1 up from the penalty spot for a hand ball and then scored a fourth to make it 4-1 to them at the end.

Birtley Board Inn were  7-1 Home winners over Kelloe Davy Lamp.Third division side Bowburn Cooperage provided the opposition for Chester Plough Inn  as They Travelled to Bowburn  in the Guards Cup 1st round. The home side deservedly took the lead in the 10th when Dalglish was adjudged to have handled the ball, however from our view the ball definately struck him in the stomach. From the resulting free kick, their centre forward fired home with a low drive from 25 yards through a sea of bodies. The Plough did manage to get back in the game only five minutes later when we got a corner kick which was took by Ben Lloyd who put the ball straight on to the head of JOEL BADDAMS who rose superbly to head home. It didnt take long for the home team to regain their advantage. In the 20th minute the ball was given away on the left hand side and played down the flank before being crossed in, the ball took bobble and Lee McGuiness sliced the ball in to the path of the centre forward who drove past the outstretched hands of our keeper.

Things went from bad to worse only moments later when a speculative ball was played up field in to The Ploughs penalty area and some how Tony Dalglish placed the ball right in the corner for a howler of an own goal. This now gave away side an uphill battle but managed to get back into the game on the half hour. The ball was played down the right to Hill who done well beat his man before squaring to Seymour who's strike was blocked before coming back to JOEL BADDAMS who hit his shot first time, again it was blocked before he fired home the second attempt. H/T 3-2 The Plough Inn started the second half brighter but still weren't playing to their normal standards. Although we started to enjoy more of the posession we never provided any threat to the home goalkeeper.

The away team were dealt a killer blow in the 55th minute when the ball was played down the left hand side and again put in to area which should have been comfortably dealt with but unfortunately the goalkeeper came racing out and the ball bounced over his head and into the empty net. The away team now looked pretty dead and buried and offered no come back until as late as the 75th minute when they really started to press the home team back.

The Plough now started to create a hatfull of chances and managed to pull a goal back in the 80th minute when the ball was played into the area and Jamie Seymour''s shot was blocked before falling to the feet of DANIEL HILL who made no mistake from 6 yards out. This now set up a grandstand finish to the cup tie and looked as though the away team were going to get an equaliser.

The Plough switched formation and went 3-4-3 and really went and attacked the home side in a bid to get the equaliser. Chris Cuthbertson forced the keeper to make and outstanding save and also agonisingly put the ball over the bar from only two yards. Substitute John Forster also looked to have scored when he chipped the keeper only to see the ball come back from hitting the cross bar and hacked away to safety. Bowburn Cooperage managed to hold on in the remaining minutes to go through to the next round. F/T 4-3 Goals from Allen Robson, James Davidson and Two from Damien Baston gave Chester Easy Street a 4-1 Home win over Sacriston Wmc. The draw for the preliminary round of the Guards cup paired Washington Lambton Village away to local rivals Washington Victoria Inn, who hammered The Lambton Village  in pre-season last season. The Victoria Inn were 2-0 Up within 15 Mins   In the 27 min - A speculative free-kick by Warren Leadbeater, guided home with the left foot from outside the area.  To make it 2-1 Then In the 60 min
A tremendous free-kick by Andrew Elliott, guided home with the right foot from outside the area. To make It 2-2 then in the 75 min A tremendous individual goal and a moment of inspiration! Good lead up play led to David Robinson going on a solo run, and scoring a right footed goal from long range yards. To Give the Visistors the Lanbton Village a 3-2 win

A Goal in the 81 min from Daniel Clark who fired home from 18 yards out with a speculative headed goal, following a corner from Gav Neal.was Not enough as Washington Colliery Crashed to a 3-1 away Defeat at Ferryhill Dynamoes.Chester Leonard's suffered a defeat  In the J D Taxis Cup Competition, being outdone by 1st Division Hilda Park 6-0.

League News - Sunday 16th August 2009

The Prestigious League Cup in the Swinburn Maddison Durham Sunday Football League kicked of Last Sunday with a New Sponsor, Spennymoor Town Fc who have agreed to sponsor the Trophy this season.

Holders Of the Trophy Hetton Lyons Cricket Club who this season are playing at Spennymoors Northern League Ground opened their defence of the Trophy with a Solid 6-0 home win over the Plough Inn from Chester le Street. The Plough travelled away to Hetton Lyons Cricket Club in the 1st round of the League cup in what can only be described as an extremely difficult tie.

Right from the kick off the home side put pressure on the Plough and had us on the back foot. Hetton team completely dominated the opening game and had plenty of possession without threatening the away goal. The breakthrough came in the 12th minute when we gifted them a goal by giving away possession on the half way line, Hetton quickly broke down the left and crossed for the centre forward to head home. Hetton continued to press and doubled their advantage in the 20th minute when we cleared from a corner kick but didn’t get the 2nd ball; it fell to the feet of a Hetton player who made no mistake from 10 yards. Hetton managed to extend their lead in the 30th minute with a well worked goal, some neat passing resulted in the ball played down the right flank before being drilled across the goal for the centre forward to tap in from two yards. Once again Lyons came straight back at The Plough and continued to play some brilliant football and managed to make it 4-0 in the 35th minute with a superb team goal. Hetton's excellent passing and moving created an opening for the two forwards to then play a quick one two before firing home. H/T 4-0 the 2nd half told a different story as the away team raised their temp more and took the game to Hetton. The Plough managed to create a couple of good chances and possibly should have scored. Keith Lines had a couple of great efforts blocked by the centre half which were definitely goal bound and Joel Baddams also had a couple of good shots. Hetton did manage to increase their lead in the 55th minute when the ball was played down the right wing and then crossed in for the player to head past the outstretched hand of  Hetton Keeper Witherspoon. The away side continued to grow in confidence and got more involved in the game and started to pass the ball about. The Lyons finished the game off in the 75th minute with a moment of brilliance from the little number 10, the ball was played forward to the right hand side of the area, he managed to drag the ball back and then slip the ball past Curl before firing the ball in the back of the net. To Make the score 6-0 to Hetton Superb goal. Plough Midfielder Nathan Baddams man of the Match for the Plough. One final thing, on behalf of Chester-le-Street Plough Inn id just like to wish Hetton Lyons all the very best for season, they were all a good bunch of lads

A goal in 78 min from a well delivered cross from Paymon Farhang was converted by Neil Hughes. A first-class finish with the head from close range, but not enough for the Lambton Village as They Crashed to a 8-1 defeat at Chester Hilda Park. Premier League Side Houghton Glendale Social Entertained First Divison Side Waterhouses, it didn’t take the Glendale Long as they were 3-0 Up in the First 15 Mins thanks to goals from Chris Hall 2 and Luke Clarke, further Goals followed from Hall ,Clarke and Daniel  Petts to make the score 6-1 to the Glendale at Half Time , Second Half saw Hall add a Further Goal to make his Tally for the Game 4 , lee Andrews weighed in with Two Goals  to make the Final score 9-1 to the Houghton Glendale

At a wind swept Kelloe recreation park fourth division Kelloe Davey Lamp were no match for their division one visitors Washington Arms in the 1st round of the League Cup sponsored by Spennymoor Town FC. Starting the game with a stiff wind against them the Davey Lamp lads defended stoutly and were encouraged to go into the half time break only two down, a Danny Murray opener and a deflected own goal causing the damage. However Davey Lamp could not profit from the wind behind them and the Washington Arms went on to totally dominate the remainder of the game, a superb hat-trick from Carlo Barrass and Vinny Moran goal giving the Arms a comfortable 0-6 win. Pelaw Grange Dogs FC were away in the League Cup 1st round, sponsored by Spennymoor Town FC to Gilesgate Moor Hotel FC . Pelaw Grange Dogs gave The Gilesgate Moor Hotel too much respect in the 1st half and defended for the first 35 minutes without putting any pressure on Gilesgate. They then paid the price from a deflected free kick that was headed passed their keeper Tony Johnson in goal. Little changed up until half time. After the interval Pelaw had a good attacking move but then on the counter attack Gilesgate scored from close range to make it 2-0. Both sides then either hit the post or crossbars before substitute Anthony Nicholson for Pelaw scored with his first touch to make it 2-1. Gilesgate substituted 18 year old Craig McManus who had tired. Temporary keeper John Winter for Gilesgate kept the score at 2-1 with some point blank saves and Tony Johnson for Pelaw tipped the ball over the bar however in the last 2 minutes Gilesgate scored twice to make the score an unrealistic 4-1.The Match Referee Shaun Hudson had a very good Game.  Third Division side Sedgefield Net Park were well deserved winners against first division Houghton Mill All Stars in the first round of the League Cup sponsored by Spennymoor Town.Martin Broom netted twice to put Sedgefield 2-0 ahead and the lead may have been more but for some excellent saves from Mill keeper Dan Pearson. Mill left it late in the game before starting their fight back - Jamie Parker slammed the ball against the Sedgefield upright before Steve Fenn scored in the 75th and 85th minute to make it 2-2 and take the game into extra time.
Fenn was upended in the penalty area but got up to put away the resulting penalty kick for his hat trick and a 3-2 Mill lead, but Net Park soon struck back. Philip Tailorson equalised, and with only two minutes remaining and a penalty shoot out looming, Nicky Walker curled a wonderful left footed free kick from twenty yards out into the corner of the net for the winner. The Rams Head at Langley Park Needed extra Time to beat Visistors East Rainton Travellers Rest 6-5,Premier Side Brandon Bay Horse were 3-1 Home winners over Birtley Board Inn.

In the Only League Game played in the Fourth Division was a Washington Derby game between The Colliery Fact and Visitors the Oxclose Ox and Plough.Colliery were forced to change their Keeper fro this Game with regular keeper Alan Newbrook absent meaning Gordon Harrison played in goal. Michael Harmieson returned from absence.  This was our first home game for a long time but didn't immediately get to grips with the space. The Colliery opened the scoring when Craig Neal scored a header from close range following good team work and a good cross from brother Gavin who was recalled after being a sub on Tuesday. The Colliery should have kicked on from this but didn’t and the Ox pulled back shortly afterwards following some defensive uncertainty. Again we took the lead through Craig Neal after strike partner Mark Wallis played in a clever though ball but, the Ox fought back a second time. Half time the Colliery Made One Change John Kelly was replaced by Chris Trewitt. Mark Wallis had a good chance to score in his 3rd consecutive game to make it 3-2 a few minutes later but couldn't get enough on his close range header which went wide whilst under pressure. Dan Clark and Michael Harmison came on for Ross Docherty and Mark Wallis as The colliery went out to win the game those changes paid dividends a few minutes later with Dan Clark being denied a headed goal for the second week in a row, following a good save from the Oxclose keeper. The Colliery Finally did take the lead when Craig Neal got his hat trick with a really well taken finish. Craig Made it 4 with 10 minutes left, to take his tally to 6 goals in 3 games. But, in typical Colliery style we sat back and invited pressure when the Ox Scored again but we held on to make it 2 wins out of 2.

In the season’s opening fixture for Witton Gilbert Wmc from the Leagues 4th Division were pitted against Newton Aycliffe WMC from the Premier league. Witton, although on the back foot for long spells, gave a good account of themselves and there were several impressive performances, especially from Bryan Potts, Kieran Loan and Grant Boyd. They took the lead in the 18th minute when Barry Allport pounced on a defensive error and slotted the ball past the Aycliffe keeper. Aycliffe came storming back but the Witton defence held firm until the 38th minute when Aycliffe were awarded a fortuitous penalty which was despatched to bring the scores level and remained so to half time. The 2nd half saw Aycliffe’s superior fitness levels start to tell and they took the lead after some 54 minutes when a shot from some 23 yards took a wicked bounce past the diving Potts. A 3rd goal followed but Witton to their credit never gave up and sub David Callcutt saw a 22 yarder screamed just over the bar before a penalty was awarded to the home side when Barry Allport  was pushed to the ground. The subsequent penalty kick was brilliantly saved by the Aycliffe keeper who also somehow managed to keep out Allport’s follow up with another flying save. So it finished 3-1 to the Premiership club in what was a pleasant game to watch. In the first game of the season for Pelaw Grange Dogs Fc they were drawn away from home in the Castle Insurance Alan Smith Memorial Trophy Preliminary Round to new team in the league Durham Garden House who play at Framwellgate Moor School . Both sides started brightly and the Pelaw Dogs defence soon settled down. The game was quick and entertaining and then in around the 12th minute Mark Stevenson crossed the ball from the left wing for full back Phil Hawkins to head home. Around the 1/2 hour mark the referee George Bell allowed the advantage to be played after a hand ball and Pelaw created a good move for David Donnelly to score in the right hand corner of the net. Then just shortly before half time David Elders enjoying his right midfield role popped into the box to guide the ball into the back of the net to make it 3-0 to the Pelaw Grange Dogs by half time. In the second half the game continued at a good pace and was still entertaining with play from end to end. Garden House had two or three efforts well saved by the Pelaw Grange Dogs keeper Tony Johnston. Pelaw still looked dangerous in the second half although Paul Curry was struggling with an injury for most of the second half with an ankle injury and you could see several players wilting at the speed of the game and the heat. Garden House still came forward and brought three fresh players on but to no avail as the Pelaw Grange Dogs central defence of Stephen Venus and Andy Smiles stood firm. For the Dogs to progress into the Next Round. Durham Bede Lodge were beaten at Home to new Club Chester le Street Easy Street 4-1, Gilesgate Moor Hotel beat Visitors Neville’s Cross Social 5-0.Sacriston Cricket Club Travelled to High Handenhold to play the Bird Inn, This was a very difficult game and for long periods it looked like Sacriston  were going out of the competition, Finally winning 4-1, The First Sacriston Goal after  62 min Rob Draper fired home from close range with a well-finished headed goal, following a cross from Graham Embleton.the second  two mins later 64 min ,A well delivered cross from Graham Embleton was converted by Gary Draper.
