Kelloe WMC FC entertained Birtley Barley Mow wmc in the last 16 of the Durham Football Association Sunday county cup. Both teams started well without creating many chances. After the break with the pitch becoming heavier, Birtley started well again and took the lead through a penalty when Tom Orton brought down the Birtley striker inside the box. As the game continued Birtley became tired and started to concede a lot of free kicks resulting in their centre half been sent off for a second bookable offence. Then Kelloe equalised with a great finish from outside the box from Stuart Thompson. The game ended 1 - 1 after 90 minutes and in extra time Kelloe dominated with the extra man and wasted numerous chances before Chris Smith dribbled inside the box and scored with a cool top corner strike with only 1 minute left.

With 4 minutes remaining Lumley stole the points with a fine finish from Ward. The Washington Arms moved into second place in Division One with a fine four nil victory over Birtley Board Inn. After a goalless first half in which both teams looked decidedly rusty after the long break caused by the recent bad weather the Arms take the lead with a fortunate goal, a miss hit cross falling kindly to Danny Murray who volleyed home from close range. The Board Inn press forward in search of an equaliser however a solid Arms defence well marshalled by David Lyall comfortably deal with any threats. In a ten minute spell the Arms put the result beyond doubt. Michael Stubbs heads home a great Danny Noble cross to make it two nil, two minutes later Danny Murray grabs his second latching on to a miss hit clearance from the keeper. The hard working Chris Morrison completes the scoring finishing off the move of the game with a well struck strike from the edge of the box.

With Leonard’s pushing forward there were opportunities for Witton to extend their lead with Paul Finnegan going close on 2 occasions and Barrie Allport blazing over from 10 yards with the goal at his mercy, somewhat dampening an otherwise very impressive individual display.
