Wearmouth Colliery Tavern CIA 2 v 4 Washington Arms

In the Durham County Sunday Cup Washington Arms travelled to play Sunderland Sunday League first division club Wearmouth Colliery Tavern CIAF, the two closely matched teams produced an entertaining game which saw the lead switch back and forwards before the score was settled in the Arms favour. Danny Murray opened the scoring for the Arms with a fine header on the ten minute mark, however the Colliery Tavern team responded strongly and dominated most of the remaining first half with goals from David Dixon and Michael Bulmer to take a 2-1 lead. On the stoke of half-time the Arms grab an equaliser from a well struck Daz Green effort. The second half is dominated by the Arms who storm into a four-two lead with goals from Craig Smith and Michael Stubbs, with time running out Jon Wardie grabs a goal to give the Colliery Tavern a lifeline but resolute Washington Arms defending sees them through and into the next round.
