Hetton Lyons Cricket Club Manager Moves into Saturday Football
a Club Statement from Spennymoor United web site

Company Director Billy Beasley has released the following statement on Wednesday 3rd June 2009:
“Following a number of meetings over the close season I am absolutely delighted to confirm that Brad Groves has accepted the position as Chairman of Spennymoor Football Club. More details will follow however in a nutshell he is the man who has managed and financed Hetton Lyons for the past 11 or so seasons, building the club from scratch, instilling everyone around him with his own professional winning mentality and bringing home over that period 40+ trophies including the All England, raising the profile of the village to the national stage. Brad is a football man through and through and has followed the fortunes of our own football club whilst keeping a low profile, however toward the end of last season he stepped in to assist us with finance whilst insisting that he receive neither publicity nor reward. Allegedly, over the close season a number of major clubs in the Northern League plus clubs much further up the ladder, one of which has a beautiful cathedral, approached Brad for obvious reasons, and his default reply was always, "If I were ever to have an involvement with Saturday football, the only club that I would consider would be SPENNYMOOR".
Brad Replies:
''I personally cannot tell you how pleased that my fellow directors and myself are with this development and looking forward to the coming season. It is a measure of the respect and standing that Brad has within football that first class players such as the recent signings and those which are yet to be announced, are coming to our club. Having secured the above, Alan and myself are now putting together a commercial team with the objective of building upon what we have and kicking on. The hard work is never over. Much much more is happening so please keep in touch with the club through any means as there is a task for everyone.
We now, as a football club have a sound boardroom structure, a fantastic committee, two of the best young manager/coaches in local football, and a team capable of sustaining a real challenge for all of the major trophies.
All that we ask of the supporters is that you believe as we do and that you do, what you do better than any other club, and that is, turn up in droves, be vocal, be proud and enjoy the ride.''

Washington Duke Of Albany News

Pepe's Italian Restaurant in Beamish have kindly sponsored us for the forthcoming season. The sponsorship money will be used to obtain a new kit. Pepe's is an authentic Italian restaurant, if you want to dine at Pepes it is best to book a table in advance due to its popularity, their telephone number is 0191 3701009.
The presentation night went as expected, a relatively quiet occasion and very informal. It was a good turn out with only 2 or 3 people not being available on the night. All of the players have done well this season and some people were very unlucky not to walk away with a trophy after missing out by the odd vote/ goal etc.
The awards were given as follows. Most M.O.T.M awards: Jamie Sheriff Top Goalscorer: Lee Munro Managers Player: Robert Casey Players Player: Graham Fullarton/ Lee Munro Special mention must go to both Andrew Cameron and Stephen Embleton who both had very good seasons and were unlucky to go away empty handed.

Help needed for Bowburn Crowtrees

The Bowburn Crowtrees football team who play in the Durham and District Sunday Morning League are set to have talks this Sunday at 1pm to discuss their future.

Bowburn have had football teams since a reported 1908 (100 years) although this is still to be confirmed. The local team have struggled this season for players and have had a large number from outside of the village to keep the club running.

Bowburn Crowtrees will discuss on Sunday whether or not the club will continue.

Ever increasing costs of over £400 per season for the field and other costs, including strips and referee bills, have been paid but the club has presently no sponsor. The committee are also looking for members to help out selling the likes of domino cards and busters .

The main problem this year has not been money (although a sponsor would help) but players. There just does not seem to be the local lads coming through, and although the youth teams should help in a few years as the teams increase it is the present team who are struggling.

If  anyone is interested for next season, either by playing sponsoring or just helping out, then please email the club at
BOWBURNCROWTREESFC@AOL.COM as soon as possible.

We would like to wish the team all the best and hope something can be sorted on Sunday.
