League News - Sunday 30th November
In the only game played involving a team In the League Hetton Lyons Cricket Club played in the twice-postponed FA Sunday Cup, because the tie had been twice postponed at Hetton the tie was moved to Liverpool to play Lobster at William Collins Ground.
The F.A. Carlsberg Sunday Cup 2nd Round Liverpool Lobster 2 - 3 Hetton Lyons C.C.
Hetton Lyons defence of their National crown began with a victory over Liverpool giants Lobster FC, it was only Hettons second game in 7 weeks through postponments, Sundays win was Hetton's 9th visit to Merseyside and they claimed their 6th win at arguably the hardest place to visit in the competition, but it could've been so different had Lobster taken their opportunities, they controlled the first half and had chances, Jordan Knocton, Liam Nethercote and Mark Bushell all fired wide, Michael Rimmer went closer on two occasions but Keith Finch was in superb form, Lyons manager Bradley Groves said " we rode our luck in the first half and i honestly thought that we were going out of the cup, but a few choice words at the break and the lads responded well" Hetton opened the scoring in 51st minute a deep cross found Brightwell who squared for Leon Ryan to finish neatly from 6 yards, and the centre-half doubled the scoreline on the hour when he headed home a Craig Ruddy cross, Hetton looked to have secured their place in the third round on 82 mins when Jamie Clarke rose majestically at the back post to head home, but an extremely harsh penalty decision ruined Finch's hopes of a clean sheet, Rimmer the scorer, Finch was injured soon after by Lobster sub Alderson and Hetton had used their substitutes, with less than a minute remaining Andrew Bailey scored Lobster's second from the edge of the area, with Finch struggling Hetton kept their nerve to progress through to the third round this Sunday ( 7th Dec ) away at Thornhill Lees from Bradford.
