Washington Duke of Albany FC - 2008/09

A pre-season tournament involving four Washington based teams has been arranged for Sunday 3rd August. The other teams involved are Washington Woodlands, Washington Lambton Village and Washington Colliery. Games will be played over 30 minutes a half at the Southern Areas. Thanks to Andy Bell of Washington Lambton Village for making the necessary arrangements.
The 2008 - 2009 season gets under way in just over 4 weeks. The season promises to be another close encounter in the league, amongst the favourites to go up this year will be teams such as Shadforth Plough and Sedgefield Crosshills, in addition to the Top Club (Formerly The Oasis) and possibly some of the new teams who are as yet unkown entities. We will of course be hoping to challenge, and will be in a good position to do so should one or two proposed additions to the squad go through as planned. Greg Johnson has agreed to sign for The Duke once his police training is finished, this could be a month or two into the season, but having played with Greg in the past I am sure he will strengthen the team considerably. Anytone wishing to try out for the club are welcome to training sessions at Biddick School playing fields on Sunday mornings at 10:15 am.

The presentation night went as expected, a relatively quiet occasion and very informal. It was a good turn out with only 2 or 3 people not being available on the night. All of the players have done well this season and some people were very unlucky not to walk away with a trophy after missing out by the odd vote/ goal etc.
The awards were given as follows. Most M.O.T.M awards: Jamie Sheriff Top Goalscorer: Lee Munro Managers Player: Robert Casey Players Player: Graham Fullarton/ Lee Munro Special mention must go to both Andrew Cameron and Stephen Embleton who both had very good seasons and were unlucky to go away empty handed.
