REFEREE ABUSE
There has been a noticeable increase with regards to the abuse that the league referees have been getting and this could result in referees no longer officiating within the DADSFL. This is totally unacceptable behaviour, either on or away from the pitch.
All players and team officials need to be aware that anyone reported for such behaviour will be severely dealt with under league rules.
We do not have the luxury of a large number of referees within our league. Losing referees will only affect the number of games having an official appointed to thegame. Teams reported for not treating referees with the respect they deserve will be the first to not get a referee when we do not have enough to cover the game. Please respect the referees. Without them you will not get the game you deserve.
RUBBISH LEFT AT THE SIDE OF PITCHES.
This subject has also been raised before. The League has had complaints regarding the rubbish that is left at pitches at the end of games. Should this continue some facilities may be removed. We have also previously had complaints from Differnt Councils concerning litter such as plastic bottles, used plastic tape tie-ups and worst of all, a blood stained bandage being left behind in previous seasons. We would therefore be grateful if teams can get into the habit of bringing a plastic bag with them to matches and appointing a designated person each week to pick up the litter from their touchline and take it to a designated waste bin at the venue. You would not wish to play on a pitch where the previous team’s rubbish is in your standing area. .
PARKING,
This subject has been raised before, but the League need to remind players and supporters to please park responsibility at all venues,Some cars have parked in front of entry/exits which could prevent or delay an ambulance reaching a pitch in an emergency.

The FA’s grassroots Goal of the Month competition is now live!
29/10/09 11:53 Category: General
The FA and Sky Sports TV pundit Chris Kamara have teamed up to ask amateur footballers from up and down the land to show off their skills by uploading their best goals to The FA’s Official YouTube channel to mark the launch of their new Grassroots Goal of the Month competition.
The idea is simple. If you think you or your team have scored a screamer, be it everything from a 40-yard lob to a well worked tap in, then you simply upload the clip of the goal to www.youtube.com/TheFA.
At the end of each month Chris Kamara and his judging panel of experts will select a shortlist of three goals that will then go to the public vote.
The competition is open to any player and team playing in affiliated eleven-a-side adult football, and there are fantastic prizes on offer for the winning team. The winner of the first month’s competition (open until the end of November) will receive an amazing package for their team, comprising a bespoke Goal of the Month winners T-shirt, 18 pairs of the latest UMBRO Speciali football boots, a brand new team kit, 10 UMBRO Dynamis Laser Pro balls, the official matchball of The FA Cup, as well as training hurdles, cones and bibs.
Chris Kamara commented: “This is an unbelievable competition! I feel honoured to have been selected for the judging panel and I cannot wait to see all the fantastic goals come flooding in. The grassroots game is full of hidden talent and I’m really looking forward to hopefully finding the next Steven Gerrard or Wayne Rooney over the coming months.”
The FA’s Grassroots Goal of the Month competition is the latest initiative to come from The FA’s eleven-a-side recruitment campaign, which aims to inspire and support adults to keep playing eleven-a-side football. The FA has a stated objective to retain 30,800 men’s teams & 480,000 players by 2012.

Wearmouth Colliery Tavern CIA 2 v 4 Washington Arms
20/10/09 15:04
In the Durham County Sunday Cup Washington Arms
travelled to play Sunderland Sunday League first
division club Wearmouth Colliery Tavern CIAF, the
two closely matched teams produced an
entertaining game which saw the lead switch back and
forwards before the score was settled in the
Arms favour. Danny Murray opened the scoring for the
Arms with a fine header on the ten minute mark,
however the Colliery Tavern team responded strongly
and dominated most of the remaining first half with
goals from David Dixon and Michael Bulmer to take a
2-1 lead. On the stoke of half-time the Arms grab an
equaliser from a well struck Daz Green effort. The
second half is dominated by the Arms who storm into a
four-two lead with goals from Craig Smith and Michael
Stubbs, with time running out Jon Wardie grabs a goal
to give the Colliery Tavern a lifeline
but resolute Washington Arms defending sees them
through and into the next round.

Stephen Johnson with his wife Joan.
17 October 2009
By By MARISSA CARRUTHERS
The words of Stephen Johnson in the arms of his devoted family as he returned to Wearside for the first time since being charged with murder on a Spanish holiday island 20 months ago – a crime he strongly denies.
"I never thought this day would happen," added the 54-year-old dad-of-three, who owns Stepys Coaches – which used to sponsor the Durham and District Sunday Football League.
Mr Johnson was allowed home for a fortnight by the Spanish authorities, having previously been unable to leave Tenerife since he was arrested for allegedly fatally stabbing a 25-year-old Moroccan, in the resort of Playa de las Americas.
"My stomach has been churning for the last three days with worry about whether it would happen," he told the Echo.
Mr Johnson's first stop before returning to the family home of 27 years at Elvet Green, Hetton, was to visit his mum Nora, 77, in Haswell Plough, who has not seen him since January last year.
"She saw him and just broke into tears and cried her heart out," said Mr Johnson's wife Joan, 53.
As well as catching up with their children Michelle, 27, Lorraine, 26, and Gary, 24, Mr Johnson is hoping to see his one-year-old granddaughter – who he has only seen once since his arrest.
He intends to spend his fortnight enjoying a quiet time at home, adding: "I'm just going be with my family and sort things out with the business.
"I would like to go and watch Sunderland, but I'll probably go and watch the local teams, like Hetton Lyons."
The incident which turned a holiday into a nightmare is believed to have happened when Mr Johnson acted as a good Samaritan to stop a fight, during which he suffered a head wound.
It is thought he could be held on bail in Tenerife for up to four years, but recent legal moves suggest a jury trial could take place in Santa Cruz next year.
The trauma has had a devastating effect on Mr Johnson and his loved ones, who have been wracked with worry about him.
"When this all first happened I was suicidal," he said. "I couldn't eat, I couldn't sleep. Everything was just a daze. I couldn't believe what was happening.
"My life has been on hold until this goes to court. The emotional and physical stress and strain has been unbelievable."
He said he would have not been able to cope with the ordeal without help from friends who have stuck by him in Tenerife and Wearside, including entrepreneur Matty Roseberry.
A webpage called Bring Back Stepy has been set up on the Internet site Facebook, which urges people to contact North East MEP Stephen Hughes to lobby the Foreign Office for help.
A man from Liverpool was also arrested by Spanish Police in connection with the killing, and remanded in prison.

Looking to build on last weeks win, Easy Street went into the game still top of the table after their point’s deduction. But they didn't show their title winning credentials in the first half and despite taking the lead through Craig Mickle, the table toppers huffed and puffed in midfield as they were at times out fought and out classed by the Leonard’s. Half time couldn't come quick enough and Dalkins half time words seemed to have the desired effect as Easy Street dominated the second half with as impressive display of team passing, especially down the right side with Jak Penny, Damien Baston, David Hope and Mickle himself finding themselves with time on the ball, something that was a real premium in the first half.
But Easy street continued to create chances and the second goal came when Baston lobbed a pinpoint ball over to Allen Robson who controlled and lashed the ball home to break the Leonard’s Resistance.

FRANK PATTISON: 25 YEARS AS PRESIDENT OF DURHAM COUNTY FA
On 29 February 1984 Frank Pattison was appointed as President of the Durham County Football Association following the decision of Arthur Askew to retire from the position. At the time of his appointment the Association was based in small offices in Durham and had limited assets. Frank has overseen the development of the Association to such an extent that on 18 February 2005 it was necessary to move to a custom built office block at the Riverside, Chester le Street. Currently the Association has assets in excess of £1.8 million and is one of the most successful and respected Counties in the country. From 1989 until 2003 Frank represented the County on The FA Council and he was elected a member of the main FA Board of Directors and later as Vice Chairman of The FA. He was also responsible for the creation of the National Game Board ( the body responsible for all football outside the Premier and Football Leagues) and was its first Chairman. Frank was and still is highly respected by many FA Councillors who believed that one day he would take over as Chairman of The FA. During the period of his office the Association has benefited from Frank’s experience as a Solicitor both in disciplinary and legal matters none more so than when his advice and guidance assisted the Association in becoming a Limited Company in September, 2001. Frank has always been anxious to support Youth football in the County and it is no coincidence that during his term of office Durham have won The FA County Youth Cup on four occasions and contested the final on two further occasions, a record unequalled by any other County. After 25 years Frank’s enthusiasm remains undiminished and apart from chairing all Directors and Council meetings he is a regular attendee at all Youth teamfixtures and County Cup Finals as well as local football matches.

FA Charter Standard criteria changes
The criteria for The FA Charter Standard Club programme has been slightly modified to reflect
the views of over 37,000 people who were consulted on the development of The FA’s National
Game Strategy 2008-12. Many of the changes also replicate examples of good practice that
have been implemented by FA Charter Standard clubs and as a result The FA’s Charter Standard
Club programme is further raising standards ad supporting the needs of grassroots football. From July 2009 all new clubs will have to adhere to the new criteria together with those existing FA Charter Standard Clubs renewing their status in season 2009-10. However for existing FA Charter Standard clubs a transitional
period has been allowed to provide sufficient time and support. Following the Goals and Enablers of The FA National Game Strategy the additions made to the criteria are as follows:
Goal 1: Growth and retention
• Clubs to have a link with a local school, FE college or university to recruit new players.
Goal 2: Raising standards
• First Aid equipment to be present on match days and training sessions.
• Clubs to implement the Respect programme codes of conduct.
• Clubs to host a briefing for players, parents/carers, spectators, coaches and managers to discuss on- and off-field behaviour.
• Community Clubs to run a workshop on why and how to address poor behaviour and improve standards.
Goal 3: Better players
• One coach to attend The FA Age Appropriate Introductory Module by July 2010.
• Development and Community Clubs: one coach to attend The FA Youth Award (L3) Module 1 by July 2010.
• Community Clubs: one coach to attend The FA Youth Award (L3) Module 2 by July 2011.
• No more than 1:16 coaching ratio and two adults present at all sessions/games.
Goal 4: Running the Game
• Development and Community Clubs to have a development plan based on the National Game Strategy template. Enabler: Workforce
• A volunteer co-ordinator is nominated and roles identified for volunteers in the club.
• Development and Community Clubs: head coach identified with L2 and Youth Award (L3) Module 1 by July 2010.
• Community Clubs: one coach to attend FA Mentoring course by July 2011. A great deal of support is available from your County Football Association and this includes:
• An Application and Support Resource CD-ROM that has the new criteria and many documents that include the Respect programme codes of conduct and development plans.
• Accessing FA Age Appropriate Introductory Module and Youth Award (L3) coaching courses.
• Guidance on developing your club through the Football Development workforce and accessing funding.

League News - Sunday 4th October 2009
07/10/09 12:51
In the Premier Division Leaders Hetton Lyons Cricket
Club had a Comfortable 5-1 win at Pelton Roab Fc.A
Battling performance from Pelton who, took the lead
after 9 minutes when Ryan Drummond fired Home ,but
then seemed to stop playing short sharp football,
conceded bad goals again but against a very strong
lyons side.
Mention for the ref aswell Colin Piggott, had a very good game, for 68 year old he's fitter than quite a few refs in Football at the Moment. After having no game for 2 weeks Sacriston Cricket Club entertained Burnmoor Cricket Club. Sacriston dominated possession in the first half and created several chances but could not score. John Renwick hit the crossbar with a right footed cross from the left and Graeme Embleton had a free kick brilliantly tipped over the bar by the Burnmoor goalkeeper, these were our closest efforts at goal. Burnmoor Took the Lead on 47 minsA well delivered through-ball from luke charlsworth was converted by jon caris. A first-class finish with the right foot from 18 yards out. After some close efforts Sacriston Levelled the scores with 13 mins to go when Collinson's cross from the right to the back post teased the goalkeeper into coming for the ball who missed it and allowed Gary Draper an easy finish. Final score 1-1.Sedgefield St Edmunds were 5-0 winners at Houghton Glendale and Brandon Bay Horse were 8-0 Home winners Over vistors Burnside Wmc.
In the First Division Goals from Ross Watson and Chris Duke gave Chester Hilda Park a 2-2 Draw with visitors Gilesgate Moor Hotel, Washington JFC were 2-1 Home winners Over Birtley Board Inn.

Goals from Clifford (Stephen), Race and Bowes sealed the tie for the visitors. The Steelers captain - Kieron Moralee received the MOM award.
In the Deerness Driveways Presidents Trophy 1st round. Pelaw Grange Dogs FC 1 vs Chester Plough Inn FC 3This cup game saw Chester Plough make most of the running in the first half with the Pelaw forwards struggling a well rehearsed offside trap. After 20 minutes Chester took the lead and a further 10 minutes later added a second to make it 2 nil at half time.A good team talk to make the Pelaw Grange Dogs Players close the Chester players down more seemed to have worked and Eddy Quinn lobbed the Chester goalkeeper to make it 2-1. Chester's offside trap was now been exploited and Chris Hawkins of the Dogs was clean through on goal with only the keeper to beat but a call for offside seemed to put him off and he shot straight at the advancing keeper. Chester then went straight up the opposite end and scored to make it 3-1. Pelaw still looked the more likely to score but with some young players on and missing two of there normal forwards couldn't manage to penetrate the Chester defence.Chester Osborne entertained Witton Gilbert Club in the Deerness Driveways Presidents Trophy. The Osborne Winning10 – 0 with a goal from Paul 'windows' Haggan, one from chrissy bennett, 2 from man of the match chris winn and a hatrick each for Wes Hood and Chris Days.
