Hetton Lyons Cricket Club Manager Moves into Saturday Football
a Club Statement from Spennymoor United web site

Company Director Billy Beasley has released the following statement on Wednesday 3rd June 2009:
“Following a number of meetings over the close season I am absolutely delighted to confirm that Brad Groves has accepted the position as Chairman of Spennymoor Football Club. More details will follow however in a nutshell he is the man who has managed and financed Hetton Lyons for the past 11 or so seasons, building the club from scratch, instilling everyone around him with his own professional winning mentality and bringing home over that period 40+ trophies including the All England, raising the profile of the village to the national stage. Brad is a football man through and through and has followed the fortunes of our own football club whilst keeping a low profile, however toward the end of last season he stepped in to assist us with finance whilst insisting that he receive neither publicity nor reward. Allegedly, over the close season a number of major clubs in the Northern League plus clubs much further up the ladder, one of which has a beautiful cathedral, approached Brad for obvious reasons, and his default reply was always, "If I were ever to have an involvement with Saturday football, the only club that I would consider would be SPENNYMOOR".
Brad Replies:
''I personally cannot tell you how pleased that my fellow directors and myself are with this development and looking forward to the coming season. It is a measure of the respect and standing that Brad has within football that first class players such as the recent signings and those which are yet to be announced, are coming to our club. Having secured the above, Alan and myself are now putting together a commercial team with the objective of building upon what we have and kicking on. The hard work is never over. Much much more is happening so please keep in touch with the club through any means as there is a task for everyone.
We now, as a football club have a sound boardroom structure, a fantastic committee, two of the best young manager/coaches in local football, and a team capable of sustaining a real challenge for all of the major trophies.
All that we ask of the supporters is that you believe as we do and that you do, what you do better than any other club, and that is, turn up in droves, be vocal, be proud and enjoy the ride.''
