The Durham Football Association County Cup to
preference Last Sunday as Most Clubs in the League
were involved.
Last Seasons League Champions Kelloe Wmc entertained Darlington Haughton WMC in the county cup and started brightly when a swift counter attack was finished by striker Colin Young. Kelloe continued to dominate possession without creating many chances and were punished when the visitors snatched a goal back before half time. In the second half, Kelloe pressed for a goal and went ahead when winger Stuart Thompson robbed the ball and shot from 20 yards. Colin Young soon rounded the keeper for a third and then Kelloe picked up the pace ending up 8 1 winners with goals from Chris Smith, Keiran Megran and substitutes Gavin Barton(2) and Adam Strong.Washington Arms Travelled to Whickham for this County Cup Fixture, they made progress in the with a hard earned win at Whickham U21's, Chris Morrison scoring the only goal of the game, earlier the Arms missed a penalty after Man of the Match Chris Morrison had been hauled down in the box, Craig Smith blasting the resultant spot kick wide of the Keeper, hitting the post.Pelaw Grange Dogs were no so lucky as they travelled to Trimdon
To play Trimdon Dovecote.This game was won and lost by half time with 2 good goals coming on 20 and 35 minutes for Trimdon. However on two occasions Pelaw should of scored after doing all the hard work. The second time Trimdon going down the other end quickly and scoring there second. In the first half Pelaws central defenders looked fragile and when Stephen Venus Came on at half time in the centre of the back four they looked a lot more settled but the second half did not create the chances that were available in the first half. Pelaws best efforts coming from long range shots that the Trimdon keeper had no problems in handling. Sedgefield Black Lion travelled to Horden and found the going tough as they crashed to a 4-1 defeat at the Hands of the Horden cw. Framwellgate Moor Wmc made the Trip to Sunderland to Face Sunderland Sunday League side Hylton Castle, Framwellgate found the Sunderland Side to strong as they were well beaten 6-2.Sedgfield Net Park were beaten 3-2 by visitors West Auckland Eden
Burnmoor Cricket Club progressed to the next round with a Fine 5-0 away win at Newton Aycliffe British Legion.Ferryhill White Horse were 4-3 winners at South Moor Sports. Lumley fc crashed out of the County Cup after a disappointing 3-2 defeat at Willington Cottles Fc. Despite dominating & taking the lead twice, through Daniel White then James Laidler, Lumley lost 3-2.Washington JFC were 4-1 Home winners over Leadgate Golden Lion.
Chester Easy Street Fc progressed to the next round of the County Cup needing extra Time to win 7-2 at Burnhopefield Celtic Fc, thanks largely to a never say die attitude and a wonder goal with the last kick of the game from David Hope. With time running out and Easy Street trailing 2-1 Hope received the ball from Corlett on the left hand side of the penalty area and with no other thought in his mind managed to guide to ball expertly into the top right hand corner of the goal.Burnopfield deservedly lead at the break by 2 goals to nil through 2 set pieces. The first came from the spot and the 2nd was from a free kick just outside the area. With Easy Street reeling from the score line at half time the team rallied together and put in a 2nd half and extra time performance to be proud of. Anthony Davison scuffed in the 1st before Hope sent the tie into extra time and the team with extra confidence as goals from Davison x2, Mickle x2 and Corlett, Easy Street ran out 7-2 winners. In the Leagues Premier Divison Hetton Lyons Cricket Club maintained top spot with a 3-0 win at Houghton Glendale
Chester Hilda Park remain top of division one after a 4-2 away win at Houghton Mill All Stars.The game started badly for Mill when after only five minutes goalkeeper Ian Price was forced to limp off with a leg injury, Steve Ashman taking over. Dan Walker then put Chester ahead before Mill's Kevin Johnston blasted home the equaliser following a goalmouth scramble. Some fine inter play between Nick Thompson and Gary Adey set up Steve Fenn to curl his shot around keeper David Hartley for Mill to lead 2-1 at the break. But after Mill's good first half performance they completely folded in the second. A poor clearance by centre back James Cattell fell easily for Nathan Burnett for 2-2, Alistair Dodds then headed into his own goal beforeAdam Williamson scored number four to secure all three points for Hilda. In the Second Division West Rainton were 2-1 Home winners over Ushaw Moor Cricket Club, Pittington Fc lost 2-1 at Bishop Middleham Cross Keys, and the Steelers had a Fine 6-3 win at Coxhoe Wmc.
In the Third Division Low Fell Gold Medal were 2-1 Home winners over Shadforth Plough Inn, Bowburn Cooperage crashed to a 4-1 defeat at Washington Victoria, Darren Naisbett scored on his first full start as Victoria Inn defeated BowBurn to climb to top of the League. The game exploded into life with 4 first-half goals for the Victoria . After 10 min a well delivered cross from Steven Talbot was converted by Andrew Cameron. A fine finish with the head from 18 yards out. On 20 min some good work from Steven Talbot led to a goalmouth scramble. Mark Liddle took advantage by scoring a clinical right footed goal from close range. On 30 min a well delivered corner from Ryan Mason was converted by Darren Naisbett. A great finish with the head from 18 yards out. And the Fourth Goal came just before half Time on 40 min Ryan Mason fired home from 18 yards out with a well-finished left foot goal, following a through-ball from Steven Talbot.
In the Leagues Fourth Division Chester Leonard’s Fc were well beaten 5-1 at Home to visitors Witton Gilbert Wmc, Although Leonard’s were missing 2 or 3 key players, All 4 of Witton’s 1st half goals came within the space of 15 mins Leonard’s defending was shocking Chester Leonard’s started much better in the 2nd half and were awarded with a goal when on 50 min Will Newell fired home from close range with a clinical left foot goal, following a cross from Richard Brennan. With Leonard’s playing better it was a real killer when Witton made it 5-1 with yet another easy goal. But the Chester side never give up in 2nd period and Nichol got a few good crosses into the box but Leonard’s are lacking a killer instinct at the moment and never really looked like scoring another.
